In 2015, we moved from CA, to the bluegrass region of Kentucky, to pursue the dream of living a more wholesome, healthy, self- sustaining existence closer to nature. Our family homestead is located in the hills, just South of Lexington. Our dogs, kitties, horses, cows, sheep, goats, chickens, ducks, etc. All have individual and unique characters, and are never dull to be around! . You may see deer, wild turkeys and even the occasional red fox wandering through. The scenic countryside of rolling hills and green pastures is great for horseback riding, hiking, camping, photography, and other fun outdoor activities!
We are a trilingual family speaking English, Japanese, and some Spanish too! Our 3 young sons (7,9,11)are friendly, smart, and lots of fun—I’m sure they’ll love to engage you in a game of Chess or Monopoly! Our family all chip in with helping around the house and with the animals, and there’s plenty of projects to engage in! We like to encourage our visitors to enjoy their time with us, and often times they become like family!

This project could involve children. For more information see our guidelines and tips here.
You will have an opportunity to integrate into our routine. You can explore and become friends with our land and animals, experiencing a more down to earth and back to basics approach to food and living. You could learn to hand milk a cow for example or assist in a difficult birth or patch a fence where the cows got out this morning!
The sunsets here are incredibly beautiful! Depending on your interests and skills toy can try horseback riding, hiking, swimming, bicycling, running, reading, etc. Depending on the time of year, there are always projects going on and things to do and learn! What do YOU want to do? We cherish the time preparing and eating meals together, and generally try to include something we have grown or produced ourselves!
Currently, due to Covid, we are attempting some timeframe of social distancing until safety has been established, so we may Ask what you like and provide you with food to prepare on your own, and potentially we could share closer time together as everyone sees fit and is comfortable. If you have any questions please ask!
Well, first of all, since this is a cultural exchange, we want our visitors to enjoy their time here, and only help out with things because they want to, and not because there are any stringent requirements or heavy expectations! We are a pretty upbeat bunch, and like to creatively discover everyone’s strengths and build on those! We strive to keep a positive and meaningful time for all!

A clean bedroom, bath, and kitchen in the rustic farmhouse (sometimes you’ll have the farmhouse to yourself!), or at our home across the road from the farm, a room and bath.
You can walkabout to the springs, creeks and lost road around the farm. Swim in our pool between June and September. We are not far by car from Lexington and Berea.... It's very scenic here! There are beautiful sunrises and sunsets, as well as wildlife and fresh air! Experienced horse enthusiasts can ride our lovely horses. Thanks!

We have a WiFi connection at our home up the road from the farm. There is good cell service at the farm, so most Workawayers come with an internet plan. If need be, people can use the WiFi at our home.
We have space for an RV but no sewer hook up.
