Description
Hi! We're Han and Eleanor, and we've just bought our first family home here in Cairns — right in the heart of town, with the Great Barrier Reef on one side and world-heritage rainforest on the other.
Our household also includes our daughter Sophie, who is two and will almost certainly want to show you her toys, and Loretta, our extremely sleepy dog whose main contribution is supervising from the couch.
We both work full time, so evenings and weekends are when we're all together — shared dinners, and we love taking visitors out to our favourite spots on days off. Cairns is a brilliant base: reef trips leave from the marina, the Daintree and Cape Tribulation are an easy drive north, and the Atherton Tablelands are full of waterfalls and swimming holes. We're happy to point you toward the places the tour buses miss. -

Echange culturel et opportunités d'apprendre
We're new to hosting and genuinely keen on the exchange side of it — we'd rather have someone become part of the household than just pass through.
Because we both work weekdays, weekends are when the real sharing happens. We like getting out: hiking the tracks around Cairns and the Tablelands, showing visitors the parts of Far North Queensland that don't make the tourist brochures, and heading up to the family farm on the Atherton Tablelands.
We can share local knowledge on the reef and rainforest, how to actually live comfortably in the tropics, and Australian food and family life with a very small child in it. Sophie will teach you her own vocabulary whether you want it or not, and Loretta is available for slow walks.
What we're hoping to get from it: our daughter growing up around people from other places, and the two of us learning about somewhere we've never been. We'd love to hear about where you're from — and if you cook something from home one night, we'll consider that a very fair trade. -

Aide
Like most new homeowners, we've got a long list of tasks that never make it to the top of the pile. We're after a hand with general upkeep around the house and garden, plus the odd small project — tidying, organising, garden tasks, painting, and similar tasks that just need someone with time and a bit of initiative.
We ask for around 4–5 hours a day, 5 days a week, with 2 full days off to explore. Because we're both at work during the day, you'd be getting on with things independently — we'll walk you through everything beforehand and leave clear notes. You can set your own start time, though early is smart here; the heat builds fast after 10am.
This suits someone comfortable doing tasks solo rather than looking for a hands-on, side-by-side experience. Weekend projects are where we'll be working alongside you. In exchange we provide your own room, all meals, and a genuinely good base for exploring Far North Queensland. -

Hébergement
We offer your own private room with an ensuite, accessed via the verandah — so you have your own entrance and can come and go without disturbing the house. It's a clean, comfortable, air-conditioned space that's genuinely yours for the duration of your stay.
You'd share the kitchen and living areas with us, so you're part of the household rather than tucked away. Bedding, towels and laundry facilities are all provided.
Food-wise, we provide all your meals. Breakfast and lunch you'd help yourself to from the kitchen — everything is there, and you're welcome to cook whatever you like. Dinner we eat together as a family most nights, usually around 6pm once Sophie's had hers. If you have dietary requirements or things you don't eat, just tell us before you arrive and we'll shop accordingly.
We're right in the heart of Cairns, so the esplanade, night markets, cafés and the bus and ferry terminals are all within easy walking distance. -
Autres infos...
Public transport around Cairns is just 50c a trip, so exploring the local spots is very affordable. You'll also have access to a loaner bicycle to easily get to the Esplanade, local shops, and the town center whenever you like.
