    Description

Hi-I have an amazing little bed and breakfast in Puerto Viejo Costa Rica. I moved here about 4 yrs ago with my 2 Great Danes and a cockatoo from the US and opened the business. We are 2 blocks from the Caribbean and host guests from all over the world. The B&B has 3 suites and a house where guests stay.

I live just around the corner and the accommodations for work away are right next door too on its own separate property with a large yard. Since we are located in the town of Puerto Viejo everything is close, restaurants, shopping, beaches & this little residential area offers peace and quiet. The workaway home backs up to a bit of jungle so you often see sloths, iguanas, agouti and other small animals while you are hanging out in a hammock.

I’m looking to host a couple to help with gardening, cleaning, reception, errands and some projects at the hotel 5 day’s a week. They will help with our Costa Rican employees to manage the tasks as well as provide a knowledge exchange between the parties. We employ 2-3 local staff members depending on the day and season. It's a great opportunity for volunteers to gain cultural insight and practice their Spanish skills. The specific hours, days, and tasks will depend on your skill set and the needs of the guests.

If you want to meet people from all over the world, this is a great area. Over 50 nationalities call this place home. It provides an opportunity to practice Spanish, see what Pura Vida is all about, participate in the local events, experience wildlife at your door and have access to some of the most beautiful beaches in Costa Rica. With plenty of time to yourself you can make the most of your time to see what life is really like here.

We need assistance with cleaning and guest check in/out, credit card payments, shopping, small errands, as well as gardening. The typical hours are between 6:30AM (06:30) to 2PM (1400) with a long break typically 9-11. The work week will not exceed 25hrs however some days may be slightly shorter or longer depending on the particular day. We bake all the time for our guest breakfasts so if you like to bake perhaps this is an option as well but it isn’t necessary.
This position doesn’t require a lot of technical skill however basic knowledge of cleaning, and the kitchen is expected. Most importantly the position requirea a very high attention to detail. Our guests are our most important concern. The B&B is ranked 9.5 on travel reservations sites and it is due to our dedication to ensuring each guest has a comfortable stay. People come from all over the world and it is our goal to make all of them feel at home. Basic Spanish is required to communicate with our guests as aproximately 20% do not speak English.

In your down time there are tons of beaches, jungle hikes, volunteer opportunities, as well as wildlife at your door. I ride my bike everywhere but there are buses to explore things a bit further from town and the cost is very inexpensive. It’s a great town to be able to kick back and relax but still be close to national parks. If you like extra adventure you can take tours for zip lines, white water rafting, night jungle hikes, snorkeling, surfing and a lot more. It is impossible to list all the ways to spend time here. There seems to be something for everyone at every level of adventure.
