    Description

We are a family from Norfolk Island in the South Pacific, a tiny island 8km x 5kms situated half way between Fiji and Australia and between New Zealand and New Caledonia (our nearest neighbor 800kms away). We love our island home and even though we have traveled extensively in the world we love the beauty, environment and safety of Norfolk. I was an antique dealer for many years and my partner is a Chef. We have four children, two of whom are still at home with us and attend the local school. We have been 'workawayers' ourselves in Europe and loved it very much. We have 3 horses, a dog, chickens and lots of fences. We have a lot to do and would really enjoy some help. We live on a good size property on a hill top looking over the Pacific ocean.

    Echange culturel et opportunités d'apprendre

The cultural exchange is very important to us. Learning about living life on a tiny Pacific Island will give you an appreciation for a place that few people ever get the chance to experience. Island culture, island food, and the stuff we as a get up to here. Experiencing what its like to really live on a tiny island and not just visiting one.

Looking after our properties is always a lot of work and currently we are trying clean up the land and fences to make it better for the Horses and easier to look after in general. Helping with the horses and other animals. We are also trying to build food gardens, create an art space, and general maintenance and improvement. We also very much value artistic and creative projects you may have in mind. Help around the home. Recently we started renovating a small cottage and may also need some help with that. Anyway as you can see there is a bit to pick from.

    Hébergement

We have two options for accommodation. We have a small apartment a few minutes walk from our house that has everything you would need. Often it is not available in which case you would have a sleepout at our house with a shared bathroom inside the house. The sleep out will allow a closer interaction with our family and a better cultural exchange.

Sometimes we have an organised breakfast otherwise just help yourself to the cupboards. The same goes for Lunch. Dinner is almost always a sit down meal and we would hope you can enjoy it with us.

You can fly to Norfolk from Auckland New Zealand, and Sydney or Brisbane Australia. It is about a 2 and a half hour flight. Norfolk is so beautiful and there is heaps to do and see around the small island. The island is only 8km x 5kms but it is surprisingly big. As only about 2000 people live on the island most of it is forest and rural, with national parks and grassy commons. Norfolk is most famous for its 'Norfolk Pines', its convict settlement that was built in 1788 on the beach front and its connection with the 'Mutiny on the Bounty' and the new home of the Pitcairn Islanders. The main beach is in a large lagoon with coral and great snorkeling. There are also rock pools around the island that are good for fishing and some for swimming. For a small place there are also lots of cafes and places to eat. Have a look online to find out a bit more about Norfolk (Norf'k).
