    Description

We are an ordinary Aussie family living on a small 1.7 acre property in a beautiful rural part of Queensland — one of the state’s best kept secrets.

We are lucky enough to have a small, self-contained granny flat separate from our family home, and we enjoy welcoming genuine, kind-hearted travellers who would like to spend some time in our region, help out around the place, and experience a relaxed Australian family lifestyle.

We are not fancy, polished or perfect. We are down-to-earth, family-focused, sometimes busy, sometimes quiet, and we like people who are easy-going, respectful, practical and happy to “have a crack” at things.

Our home is a peaceful countryside base where you can rest, explore, meet a real Aussie family, and contribute in a simple and meaningful way.

    What We Offer

Workawayers stay in a small but comfortable self-contained granny flat separate from our main house.

    The space includes:

    Queen bed
    Sofa
    Private bathroom
    Kitchenette
    Quiet rural outlook
    Space to relax independently

The accommodation is best suited to one person or a couple/two friends travelling together.

Because we have young girls in our family home, we are not currently accepting single male travellers. However, couples that include a male traveller are very welcome.

We provide basic staples for you to prepare your own breakfasts and lunches in your own space. You are also warmly invited to join us at the main house for informal evening meals, where we can share food, conversation, stories and a bit of everyday family life.

We enjoy meeting new people, but we also value quiet time and personal space, so this exchange works best for people who are independent, respectful and comfortable with a relaxed family rhythm.

    Our Lifestyle

We live a fairly relaxed, laid-back Australian lifestyle. For some people, our way of life may seem very casual or unstructured, but that is part of who we are.

We value kindness, family, community, honesty, humour, nature, and giving people a fair go.

We are not religious, but we are respectful and accepting of others. We believe there is good in people, and we welcome people from different backgrounds, cultures and ways of life.

That said, we have firm boundaries around safety and respect. We will not tolerate violence, aggression, drug misuse, creepy behaviour, racism, sexism, or anyone bringing bad intentions into our home environment.

We are offering a genuine cultural exchange, not just free accommodation. We hope you will feel welcome here, but we also expect mutual respect, clear communication and basic consideration.

Travellers staying with us will have the chance to experience everyday Australian family life in a relaxed rural setting. We are not offering a polished tourist experience — this is a real home, with real people, real conversations, family meals, animals, gardens, jobs to do, and quiet country moments.

You’ll get a feel for how an ordinary Aussie family lives outside the major cities, including our laid-back approach to life, our humour, our love of nature, and the way regional communities often look out for one another. We will always extend invitations for you to join us in social settings such as BBQ's or outdoor adventures we are going on!

We have also travelled quite extensively around Australia ourselves, so we are happy to share what we know about different regions, states, road trips, camping, weather, distances, places worth seeing, and the realities of travelling through such a huge country. We may be able to offer practical tips, local insight, and honest suggestions that go beyond the usual tourist brochures.

Depending on your interests, you may learn about:

Regional Australian lifestyle and family culture
Gardening and caring for a small rural property
Australian plants, animals, weather and landscapes
Local beaches, rainforests and nature areas
Cooking and sharing simple family meals
    Travelling around Australia by road
Camping, road trip planning and different Australian regions
Everyday Aussie slang, humour and conversation
Slowing down and enjoying a quieter way of life

We are also interested in learning from you — your language, culture, food, stories, travels, skills, ideas and way of seeing the world. We have no doubt there will be plenty of laughter as we try to understand each other’s accents, expressions and ways of doing things.

At its best, we hope this exchange feels like a genuine sharing of lives: you help us around our home, and we offer you a warm, safe base to experience a slower and more local side of Queensland.

  • Aide

    Aide

We ask for help around 4 days per week, usually between 8am and 2pm but you ultimately decide what works for you, with afternoons and evenings free for you to rest, explore or do your own thing.

Your 3 days off can be taken consecutively or spaced throughout the week — we are happy to work out a rhythm that suits everyone.

Most of the help is simple, practical work around our home and garden. Tasks may include:

    Gardening
    Weeding
    Planting
    Watering
    General property maintenance
    Basic DIY projects
    Tidying outdoor areas
    Helping with animals
Cooking a family meal now and then
House or pet sitting if we need to be away
Creative or eco projects, depending on what is happening at the time

We always try to offer tasks that suit your skills, interests, confidence and comfort level. You do not need to be an expert. A good attitude, common sense and willingness to help are more important to us than perfect skills.

We are simply an ordinary family with a little extra space, a beautiful region to share, and plenty of jobs around the property that benefit from another set of willing hands.

In return, we hope to offer you a safe, comfortable and genuine place to land, some warm family meals, local knowledge, laughter, quiet time, and a chance to experience a slower slice of Queensland life.

Our region is genuinely beautiful and often overlooked by travellers rushing between bigger tourist destinations.

In your free time, you can explore:

    Beaches
    Rainforests
    Bushwalks
    Local swimming spots
    Country towns
    Cafes and markets
    Community activities
Yoga, cycling, running or wellness groups
The Whitsundays and Airlie Beach, around 2 hours away

You may also simply enjoy the quiet, read a book, journal, write, rest, watch the birds, or take in the serenity of the countryside.

We are happy to help you discover local places where we can, and if our schedule allows, we may be able to show you some of our favourite spots.

If this sounds like your kind of stay, we would love to hear from you.

Internet is available, but it can be limited or unreliable in the granny flat. You may be able to come over to the main house for better connection, or purchase a booster if you need stronger reception. Digital nomads are welcome, but this is probably not the ideal place if you require constant, high-speed internet for work.
