My husband and I, Jack and Margaret, are in our 60s and are just finishing our small off-grid, sustainable, alternative energy home and garden overlooking the Huon Valley in Tasmania.
Tasmania has the cleanest air and water in the world and a cool temperate climate. The hiking/ bushwalking here is wonderful and our native wildlife fascinating. Learn about our off grid living and help us get started with permaculture principles. We are an elderly couple but very active. I (Margaret) know much about the aurora australis (I have a Facebook group of 85,000+) and can provide information on aurora viewing.
We are working on our small off-grid, sustainable, alternative energy home overlooking the Huon Valley in Tasmania. Help needed with minor building projects like lining our carport or neo or painting. We need to do some fencing, decking, and build and plant a garden. We will also be building a chicken coop and natural beekeeping. (Warré hive) My husband cuts firewood sometimes so ability to use a chainsaw and power tools is helpful.
Happy to discuss your ideas, but we would be looking for 4 hours work a day for 4 days of each week.
We will house any helpers at the eco Hostel 400m away.
They are a friendly, family-run hostel and have a max of 12 guests, so you can also be around other young people. You will stay in a comfortable, well heated 6-person dorm with a communal outdoor kitchen, hot showers, composting toilet. We will provide one main meal every day. 3 days a week this meal will be with the hostel guests.
We can provide transportation to local shops and the bus (10 min drive) and occasionally to Hobart (30-40 min) and beaches (30 min). We have a good, reliable bus system. We have many friends who are knowledgeable bushwalkers and can help with information. If there is an aurora, we can go “aurora chasing”. If you like beaches, or mountains, Tasmania has beautiful ones.
