  Description

  Aloha Friends to be ☀️ Help me 🙏 with bringing a family home in Åland on an island retreat back to life and love!
  
  An ode to love, my father built this home in the 60’s taking each panel of wood and building material over in a rowing boat 🚣‍♂️! It was and is his life’s best work! The small private island is brimming with nature, breathtaking scenery and wildlife! While there over Christmas we had a Lynx pop by twice in one week but don't worry there won't be any predators over the spring, summer & autumn months!
  
  The vision 💫🧑‍🎤 is to restore the island and home to their natural, rugged state removing invasive trees and plants so the native landscape can thrive. We see ourselves as custodians rather than owners, responsible for protecting the land and passing it on in a healthier, wilder condition.
  
  Long term, we hope to spend more time there fully off-grid and embrace a more analog life: fewer screens, more books and records, and a deeper connection to the rhythms of nature, letting the land reclaim its original character, we aim to create a place where wildness and a quieter, more intentional way of life can flourish.
  
  I am have joint Finnish and Swedish citizenship, my mother was from Åland and I inherited this special place when she passed. My partner Sinèad is Irish ☘️💚☘️!
  
  For many reasons - namely illness, intense work load and an unfortunate collection of events I have not been able to devote as much time as I need to revitalize the home on the island.
  
  We need support tidying up the outdoors, clearing overground (reeds and overgrowth and small bushes/trees), organizing the shed and storage area, painting some windows and wood and organizing rowing boats! There are also some tasks in the main house and we also need to sort out a lot of stuff, maybe take some items to be recycled if we cannot repurpose or use them.
  
  If you happen to be handy or into DIY that is preferred!
  
  We do not live full time on the island as work means that we come and go but the plan is to spend more time there. You will have the space for yourself and while you are with us we will visit and spend time with you also help out of course!
  
  We have not hosted Workaway's as of yet but my girlfriend hosted volunteers a few years ago when she lived in the Middle East. Between us we have lived and worked for many years in - Bali, Tokyo, London, Dubai, Doha, Hong Kong and Stockholm.
  
  Our space is best suited to island lovers who love raw nature and would like to stay for a month or more.

  You will be immersed in nature, we will set you up, be there to collaborate but we need to come and go for projects.
  
  ⭐⭐⭐ This year we will be away for longer periods managing a project between May and August in Southern Europe. ⭐⭐⭐
  
  We will introduce you to extended family and the local community so you are all set and feel supported!

  You will have the space to yourself you can stay for weeks or a month or longer!
  
  We will be present to guide and set you up and help out, we need to come and go because of work so it’s essentially your home and island for your time with us!
  
  You will have access to a motor boat to explore the archipelago and pop to Hugo’s the local store!
  
  A single person, couple or two or more friends who are active, love nature, the great outdoors and are motivated and want to be part of creating something special are best suited to island living 💚🥬🌳🟢

  I am happy to share my Swedish & English! Note that on Åland, Swedish is the first language and also of course Finnish is widely spoken!

  Hébergement

  You will cook for yourself, when we are there we will cook together!
  
  The Local shop is a short trip away by motorboat or car! You will have a private room each if friends!
  
  The space has 3 double bedrooms and a loft mezzanine double bedroom so 4 in total! Kitchen, Living Room, Bathroom - Outdoors BBQ, Jetty, Tool Shed!
  
  We practice 'leave no trace principles' on the island (lnt.org/why/7-principles/) all food waste goes into a compostable unit, we recycle all other waste taking it from the island to the recycling center before we leave.
