  Description

  🇬🇧 We live in a self-sufficient farm house (cortijo) located about 2.5 km from the village of Fernán Pérez, in the area of maximum protection of the Cabo de Gata Natural Park, within the municipality of Níjar, in the province of Almería.
  The building is enclosed by the park’s characteristic rounded hills and marked by native vegetation including shrubs, pine trees, old olive trees, fig trees, cypresses, carob trees, and dwarf palms (palmitos).
  
  We have no immediate neighbours, and the only structures visible in the distance are an ancient aljibe (water cistern) and a goat stable.
  From time to time, señora Lola, who lives about 3 km away, passes near the property by car or comes for a visit.
  
  The cortijo is surrounded by olive trees, as well as by other trees, including three large pine trees, an araucaria, and two false pepper trees.
  
  Our farm is a peaceful place with minimal noise and light pollution, where it is possible to disconnect from city life and reconnect with nature and with oneself, by observing the night sky or listening to the silence.
  
  The cortijo is home on a permanent basis to our three cats, as well as chickens, roosters, and ducks. We live mostly there: Fabiano and Barto.
  
  🇪🇸 Vivimos en un cortijo autosuficiente situado a unos 2,5 km del pueblo de Fernán Pérez, en la zona de máxima protección del Parque Natural de Cabo de Gata, dentro del municipio de Níjar, en la provincia de Almería.
  
  La construcción está rodeada por las características colinas redondeadas del parque y marcada por vegetación autóctona como matorral, pinos, olivos centenarios, higueras, cipreses, algarrobos y palmitos.
  
  No tenemos vecinos inmediatos, y las únicas construcciones visibles a lo lejos son un antiguo aljibe y un corral de cabras.
  De vez en cuando, la señora Lola, que vive a unos 3 km, pasa cerca de la finca en coche o viene de visita.
  
  El cortijo está rodeado de olivos y de otros árboles, entre ellos tres grandes pinos, una araucaria y dos falsos pimenteros.
  
  Nuestra finca es un lugar tranquilo, con mínima contaminación acústica y lumínica, donde es posible desconectar de la vida urbana y reconectar con la naturaleza y con uno mismo, observando el cielo nocturno o escuchando el silencio.
  
  El cortijo es el hogar permanente de nuestras tres gatas, así como de gallinas, gallos y patos. Nosotros vivimos allí la mayor parte del tiempo: Fabiano y Barto.

  🇬🇧 Our guests could benefit from the experience by living in a privileged place: the area of maximum protection of the Cabo de Gata Natural Park. They will have the opportunity to connect with the surrounding nature and with themselves. They will be able to learn how a self-sufficient facility works, based on solar panels, batteries, a well and a water storage system. They could learn pruning techniques and be introduced to permaculture. They could learn how to take care of chickens and ducks, including aspects related to their coexistence, growth and egg laying. They could improve their hands-on skills in building wooden structures or renovating ancient dry stone walls. They could also enhance their skills in creating and managing social media profiles, as well as in video creation and editing.
  
  They may improve their Spanish, English or Italian and their cooking skills by learning from us how to cook traditional local food.
  
  🇪🇸 Nuestros/as huéspedes podrán beneficiarse de la experiencia viviendo en un lugar privilegiado: la zona de máxima protección del Parque Natural de Cabo de Gata. Tendrán la oportunidad de conectar con la naturaleza que les rodea y consigo mismos/as.
  
  Podrán aprender cómo funciona una instalación autosuficiente, basada en paneles solares, baterías, un pozo y un sistema de almacenamiento de agua. Podrán aprender técnicas de poda e iniciarse en la permacultura. También podrán aprender a cuidar gallinas y patos, incluyendo aspectos relacionados con su convivencia, crecimiento y puesta de huevos.
  
  Podrán mejorar sus habilidades prácticas en la construcción de estructuras de madera o en la restauración de antiguos muros de piedra seca. Asimismo, podrán desarrollar competencias en la creación y gestión de perfiles en redes sociales, así como en la grabación y edición de vídeos.
  
  Además, podrán mejorar su español, inglés o italiano y sus habilidades culinarias, aprendiendo con nosotros/as a cocinar comida tradicional local.

  Aide

  🇬🇧 We want our helpers' activities to have a positive impact on their growth and learning. We want also that their personal satisfaction is high at the end of the experience, so we'll work with them to develop a shared program before confirming our collaboration.
  We generally recommend a program with diverse tasks for our Worakayers, creating different dynamic and varied daily routine.
  
  Workawayers won't be helping with any business-related tasks and they support is not for profit.
  
  We offer the following activities, but we are open to adding or replacing them, based on the suggestions, wishes, and skills of our helpers:
  
  - Help us with the care of the animals and the management of the olive trees.
  
  - Create or manage the social media profiles, a logo for the cortijo, make videos, pictures and post them.
  
  - Restoration of ancient dry stone walls: Our collaborators may support us in the restoration of historic dry stone walls, local and UNESCO heritage sites. They will receive training on the necessary techniques. The work involves reassembling sections of the walls that have been damaged by wear, rain erosion, and abandonment.
  
  - The creation of a new small wooden chicken coop and the attached enclosure to protect the chickens and ducks
  
  - The creation of a synergistic vegetable garden, including the irrigation system and the protective fence
  
  🇪🇸 Queremos que las actividades de nuestros/as ayudantes tengan un impacto positivo en su crecimiento y aprendizaje. También queremos que su satisfacción personal sea alta al final de la experiencia, por lo que trabajaremos con ellos/as para desarrollar un programa compartido antes de confirmar nuestra colaboración.
  
  Generalmente recomendamos un programa con tareas diversas para nuestros/as Workawayers, creando una rutina diaria dinámica y variada.
  
  Los/las Workawayers no ayudarán en tareas relacionadas con ningún negocio y su apoyo no tiene fines lucrativos.
  
  Ofrecemos las siguientes actividades, pero estamos abiertos a añadirlas o sustituirlas según las sugerencias, intereses y habilidades de nuestros/as ayudantes:
  
  Ayudarnos con el cuidado de los animales y la gestión de los olivos.
  
  Crear o gestionar los perfiles en redes sociales, diseñar un logo para el cortijo, hacer vídeos y fotos y publicarlos.
  
  Restauración de antiguos muros de piedra seca: nuestros/as colaboradores/as podrán apoyarnos en la restauración de muros históricos de piedra seca, patrimonio local y reconocido por la UNESCO. Recibirán formación sobre las técnicas necesarias. El trabajo consiste en reconstruir las partes de los muros que han sido dañadas por el desgaste, la erosión de la lluvia y el abandono.
  
  Construcción de un nuevo pequeño gallinero de madera y del cercado anexo para proteger a las gallinas y los patos.
  
  Creación de un huerto sinérgico, incluyendo el sistema de riego y la valla de protección.

We speak a little French and Portuguese and we would love to practice them with our guests or make language tandems. 🇪🇸 Hablamos con fluidez español, inglés e italiano. También hablamos un poco de francés y portugués, y nos encantaría practicarlos con nuestros huéspedes o hacer intercambios de idiomas.

  Hébergement

  🇬🇧 Workawayers will have their own private apartment within the farmhouse, featuring a private room, bathroom, and living room. There is no shower in their bathroom, so they'll have to use the one in ours. The kitchen is shared.
  
  Our helpers will eat with us: we will cook for them or they will cook for us (as part of their daily tasks).
  In case we will not be at home, we will leave some food for them.
  We will consult with Workawayers about their dietary needs and allergies and we will choose appropriate food.
  In case they want to go for a 2 days trip somewhere else, we can provide food for packed meals. In case they prefer to eat at the restaurant, they need to pay it by themselves. We don't plan to give money to our helpers.
  
  🇪🇸 Los/las Workawayers tendrán su propio apartamento privado dentro del cortijo, con habitación, baño y salón privados. En su baño no hay ducha, por lo que tendrán que utilizar la nuestra. La cocina es compartida.
  
  Nuestros/as helpers comerán con nosotros: nosotros cocinaremos para ellos/as o ellos/as cocinarán para nosotros (como parte de sus tareas diarias).
  En caso de que no estemos en casa, les dejaremos comida.
  
  Consultaremos con los/las Workawayers sobre sus necesidades alimentarias y posibles alergias, y elegiremos la comida adecuada.
  
  Si desean hacer un viaje de dos días a otro lugar, podemos proporcionarles comida para llevar. En caso de que prefieran comer en un restaurante, deberán pagarlo por su cuenta. No tenemos previsto dar dinero a nuestros/as ayudantes.

  🇬🇧 Several hiking trails start directly from the cortijo and lead to other areas of the natural park.
  We would like to help our helpers discover the coastal village of Las Negras, Rodalquilar, and its beach as well, other wonders of the park, such as the beaches of San José, the bay of San Pedro, or other small coves that are difficult to reach.
  
  We can meet our Workawayers in Campohermoso, which they can reach by bus from Almería.
  When we go to Fernán Pérez, Campohermoso, or Las Negras, we can give them a lift by car.
  
  If our helpers are traveling by car, they will have greater autonomy, as public transport in the province of Almería and, even more so within the Cabo de Gata Natural Park, is very limited.
  
  
  🇪🇸 Varios senderos empiezan directamente desde el cortijo y conducen a otras zonas del parque natural.
  
  Nos gustaría ayudar a nuestros/as voluntarios/as a descubrir también el pueblo costero de Las Negras, Rodalquilar y su playa, así como otras maravillas del parque, como las playas de San José, la bahía de San Pedro u otras calas pequeñas de difícil acceso.
  
  Podemos encontrarnos con nuestros/as Workawayers en Campohermoso, al que pueden llegar en autobús desde Almería.
  Cuando vayamos a Fernán Pérez, Campohermoso o Las Negras, podemos llevarlos en coche.
  
  Si nuestros ayudantes viajan en coche, tendrán mayor autonomía, ya que el transporte público en la provincia de Almería y, aún más, dentro del Parque Natural de Cabo de Gata es muy limitado.

We have never had any issues with video calls or using online illustration programs, but the connection to streaming platforms or gaming may occasionally experience interruptions. 🇪🇸 La conexión a internet es vía satélite. Nunca hemos tenido problemas para realizar videollamadas ni para utilizar programas de ilustración online, pero el uso de plataformas de streaming o videojuegos puede experimentar interrupciones ocasionales.

  🇬🇧 If our helpers have a camper van, they can park it without any problems in front of the cortijo. There are no restrictions on the size of the camper. To reach the cortijo, it is necessary to drive along a 2.5 km dirt road, which is in fairly good condition. If our guests prefer to have more privacy or an even closer connection with nature, they can also sleep in a tent. 🇪🇸 Si nuestros ayudantes tienen una furgoneta, pueden aparcarla sin ningún problema delante del cortijo. No hay restricciones en cuanto al tamaño del vehículo. Para llegar al cortijo es necesario recorrer un camino de tierra de 2,5 km, que se encuentra en bastante buen estado. Si nuestros huéspedes prefieren tener mayor privacidad o un contacto aún más cercano con la naturaleza, también pueden dormir en tienda de campaña.

  🇬🇧 Yes, we can accept pets, but they must be well-trained: they must not damage the furniture, soil the cortijo, or attack our animals, which often roam freely around the property. 🇪🇸 Sí, podemos aceptar mascotas, pero deben estar bien educadas: no deben dañar el mobiliario, ensuciar el cortijo ni atacar a nuestros animales, que a menudo se mueven libremente por la propiedad.
