Description
Our charity is involved in the restoration of a nuclear bunker in Edinburgh. The Bunker is situated in 6 acres of land on top of Corstorphine Hill. The bunker is part of a former military complex that housed a RAF division during WW2; the underground bunker structure was built right after the war during the Cold War era.
The site was left abandoned and was often broken into, vandalised, and at one point even set on fire (which destroyed much of the inner structure). About 20 years ago, the site was purchased by a family that still owns it today, and is now funding the restoration out of their own pocket.
We need all the help we can get, not only from skilled workers but also from anyone willing to lend a hand in maintaining the grounds, clearing overgrown areas and helping to redevelop the area into something better! If you have any skills or background in NGO funding or UK law, we could really use your help in applying for grants!
The surrounding woodland is a designated green belt and an area of outstanding natural beauty offering views of the whole of Edinburgh. There is a bus stop at the end of the driveway with various bus services that will take you all over the city.
We are generally a self catering site, but we also offer food in the way of frozen food and fresh eggs by our onsite chickens, they lay around 8 eggs per day that volunteers are welcome to eat. As we are a registered charity, there are no special visa requirements for non-UK citizens to volunteer with us.
Site safety is very important on our site and we require volunteers to adhere to risk assessments and wear appropriate PPE when volunteering. We have CCTV around the perimeter of our property and we welcome our volunteers to help monitor this to keep the site secure.
Remember this is a building site and not a glamorous hotel. The volunteers we seek are hard working, down to earth and nonconfrontational.Types d'aide et opportunités d'apprendre

Travellers will have the opportunity to stay in a truly unique location and be part of a one of a kind restoration project. Our volunteers will have the chance to learn new skills and develop existing ones. They will meet the locals already part of the restoration project and no doubt form new long lasting friendships.
Registered charity
This host is a registered charity in the UK and is looking for help with their charity project. Guidance on charity worker sponsorship by a UK registered charity, can be found here.
Aide
We are looking for a whole host of skills and believe anyone staying on site can benefit the charity in one way or another. We leave most of the actual building to skilled volunteers or professionals, but there is always plenty to do in assisting the builders, keeping the site clean, with landscaping on the grounds, etc.
Specifically we need help with:
•Landscaping
•Construction (and plumbing, joinery, engineering/planning, etc.)
•Painting
•Writing about the charity
•People sharing posts/shorts/stories on social media
•Maintaining vehicles
We are also looking for people with a background in architecture or in law! If you have any media connections, a social media presence, or a background in journalism or writing, we'd love for you to help establish our project as a unique, upcoming tourist attraction!Langues parlées

Hébergement
We have 2 houses and a number of trailers available as accommodation. This includes a number of private rooms, 2-bed shared rooms, and a 4-bed dorm. The type of room you get will depend on the current number of on-site volunteers, so we can not make any promises! We try our best to make things as comfortable as possible though :)
We believe in personal responsibility, and our volunteers are free to set their own schedules during the week. We only ask that you help 20 hours a week. How you divide that time is up to you!Autres infos...
There are some excellent forest walks on the doorstep of the cabins. Local bus service will take you to the centre of Edinburgh in under 15 minutes, where the many shops, sights and excellent nightlife will not fail to entertain. From Edinburgh you can take many short trips to local places of historical interest, such as Stirling or Bannockburn.
