    Description

Rod and Jane live on a regenerative stock and crop farm near Martinborough in the South Wairarapa. Along with developing their own native and productive garden their main projects is restoring with the help of volunteers a large wetland and a riverside walk at the the edge of the farm. They also run an environmental education project for schools. Jane's 100 year old mother Yvonne also lives in a house on the farm. She is a great storyteller and loves to meet new people.

We sit at heart of the recently formed Group, which will give you access to other spots of remnant forest and wetlands along the place. We are also involved with the Restoration trust, and can connect you to bird watching and monitoring activities in the South Wairarapa.
We are committed to respecting and implementing the dual heritage of the partners of Te Tiriti o Waitangi (the Treaty of Waitangi). You are welcome to join us at the Waiata practice held most Mondays at Hau Ariki Marae in Martinborough.
From April to September, we host monthly volunteer mornings followed by a shared lunch.
Our education programme runs 2-3 mornings a week, except for school holidays from May to October. This is an arts and conservation programme for local schools delivered on and around Farm .
Along with practical conservation activities creative writing, art and sitting still in nature is an important part of what we offer. We welcome your participation and are happy to support you if you would like to explore the reflective side of our mahi on your own.
From November to May we are actively involved with the local food growing network. You will have the opportunity to be involved in two 'Carb Club' ... low impact, low input community growing, held here at Farm and in Martinborough hosted by the local food bank. You are warmly welcome to join Monty's Monthly, a community meal hosted by Vagabond Veg.
In February we hold the Fest, where we are open to the public for farm walks, an outdoor concert and harvesting sunflowers which are sown as part of a multi-species cover crop which is part of our regenerative farming practice.

  • Hébergement

    Hébergement

Volunteer accommodation is in a recently restored farm cottage that we call 'Jacks Hut' because of it's history. It has a main room and kitchenette, a porch, an attached bathroom and toilet. For heating their is a wood burning stove and an oil heater . There are two divan beds with draws underneath that can be made into a double bed.
All food will be provided. Breakfast you will prepare for yourself. Most evening meals we will eat together in the main house and on occasion if you would like we can provide food for you to cook or bring a meal over to Jacks Hut. Lunch will depend on what projects we have on and whether or not we are doing tasks together.

We generally set up volunteers to do tasks in the morning, but could on occasion alter our schedule for the afternoons. Jacks Hut where our volunteers usually stay, currently has no internet access (we are working on it) . You would need to hot spot on your phone or use the main house. On request we could provide a separate working space in the main house.
