    Description

We are looking for a kind, curious, and culturally minded person to spend time with my mother and us outside of Ubud, Bali and help with daily tasks like some cooking, planning of weekly outings, and working on projects. I will be present to host & facilitate the exchange for Workawayers.

My mother is a lifelong world traveler, teacher, writer, and deeply engaging conversationalist. She recently moved to Ubud and would love companionship as she settles into her new surroundings and explores Bali from a cultural and intellectual perspective.

    The role would mainly involve:

    Keeping her company
    Some cooking
Assisting with personal projects such as writing, documenting memories, organizing archives, and creative storytelling
Exploring local culture, art, music, food, and community together
Helping her stay organized and inspired in daily life

She speaks English, French, Dutch, Spanish, Russian, and Indonesian, and enjoys connecting with people from around the world. This would be an especially wonderful fit for someone interested in languages, culture, history, writing, education, or the arts. She studied Korean and would love to learn more.

We are hoping to find someone thoughtful, patient, organized, and genuinely interested in meaningful cultural exchange rather than simply accommodation.

Ubud offers an incredible environment for creativity, spirituality, art, nature, and community, and we would love to welcome someone who appreciates those qualities as much as she does. Ubud is about 30 minutes from us.

We are looking for interesting, wordily people who would enjoy spending time and helping an elderly woman in her late 70's who is mobility challenged and has some memory challenges. We have a full staff of care givers who care for her 24 hours a day and you would be tasked with giving the full time caregivers a break, and doing projects with her, going on outings, sharing life stories and hearing her stories, some cooking and taking her on walks.

Sylvia just moved to Bali from California and is living in our house which is next to my brother and his family.

She is bright, cheerful and pleasant. She holds a masters degree and was the daughter of a famous scientist. She lived in Jakarta for 30 years, Moscow for 10 years, and in the US for the rest of the time.

We are fully staffed with day to day care givers who help her with most everything. This role would be a conversation companion, an outing planner, some cooking, someone to encourage her to exercise and walk, and someone to help her with some of her personal projects.

Bring your own passions and projects to share with Sylvia.

  • Hébergement

    Hébergement

Guest suite with private bathroom, large out door patio with out door sink and storage. You have the entire ground floor to your self and it is totally private with no passing people, just the views of the jungle, river and coconut trees outside your windows and on the patio.

Food: Three meals a day will be provided by the staff who cook and do the shopping. Eating together would be preferred.

    Your space/community space:

You have the ground floor with your own bedroom and toilet/shower and outdoor sink area that could be used for some simple food prep. The covered patio overlooks the Petanu River and rice fields just beyond the manicured garden . The morning light is magical and the birds will sing to you every morning. At about 9 AM during certain times of the year a band of monkeys come through and forage from the trees around the property.

The community is an Eco Neighborhood with what is probably the most beautiful pool I have ever seen in my life. It is a natural pool (no chemicals at all) that is filtered and cleaned with natural processes and has a few fish in it. There is an area to lay out, to sit and to barbecue along with toilet facilities. There are also two other community areas where you can work, have friends over or just be in a different, more central spot. The community farm produces many basics that you can purchase and that we use daily for our own cooking.

You can't hear cars, motor cycles or anything other than the near by temple saying some chants from time to time and the river in the background. This place is one of the most peaceful and pretty places I have ever been to.

Sylvia has a car and driver available to her from time to time. It is also easy to get a private taxi. The compound has a very nice pool and there are some waterfalls near by. Ubud is about 30 minutes away by car, a good surfing beach is about the same distance away. The touristic beach areas are about an hour away depending on traffic.

Aside from us, Sylvia has an existing staff of three sweet caregiver ladies that do most everything for her our house. They cook, clean, help her over night, can care for her personal needs. Our intention is that you would bring her new experiences, stories and help her be creative and find fun things for you guys to do in Bali. We are flexible and hope that you will bring your own ideas and creative flair with you. Write to us and lets and we are excited to get to know you.
