    Description

    Hi there!
Welcome to our project of building up a nature based self sufficient farm in the outback and wilderness of mid-norway. Come and feel part of our community.

***Please take the time to read carefully through the text, as it might answer all of your questions. If not I am trying to answer as soon as possible, it might take up to two weeks due to a higher number of mails***

We are following our dream of a private homestead and actively restoring this place now for over a year. All is completly self taught + first generation farming, learning & work in progress, a non profit farm. You can help us preparing and maintaining a farm in general. Starting up with a permaculture garden, help with farm animals, renovation and many projects (DIY) in the middle of the forest & mountains without neighbors. We are not self sufficient yet, but planning on being within the next years. We want to produce for ourselves. We loved this place of norways rural country + seaside, as it is a perfect mixture of forests, fields, creeks running through the property, and the sea. We are one family of two sisters in their twenties, our mother and our most beloved two big dogs.

We together decided to immigrate to norway a long time ago, but took action to chase the dream last year for a more naturally, healthier life in norwegian’s intact nature. We moved here from germany. It‘s a multi generation farm, but also a living community. We are all different, and yet share a similar way of thinking: going back to the roots. The goal for next year is to try out what's possible in the north & produce as much as possible for ourselves. Right now we just have the very first starts. The farm has its own „bakery“: My sister will happily teach you some basic homesteading, like typical german sourdough bread making, canning, dehydrating and more.

    More about the farm:
Coming here, It was a big process with many ups & downs, like the moving, renovating the farm house of the 1900s, building up parts of the barn, installing a greenhouse, planting fruit trees - in general making this a more liveable place, as the buildings were totally rotten, when we overtook the farm.
It is mesmerizing to see this place coming into bloom and back to life. It was particulary exciting to do all of this, whilst getting to know a new country + adapting also to a new culture. Part of our mission is as well to perserve the historic charme of the ranch by keeping old farm tools. Here are a lot of things, you could put back into life just with a bit handicraft. It is often impro! Even artsy people might have a lot of fun while creating designs on the barns wall, sketching the amazing skies, which you get here or playing on a hundred years old harmonium. Your stay can be a great source of inspiration for you. Being in touch with nature. The area is as said, very close to the water, so it’s allowed to jump into the sea when ever you want. It has incredible places around like : waterfalls, many different kind of trees and green species.

What is special about this location in norway?: We have outside our doors the unique form of a one of a kind vegetation on earth: the boreal rainforest. Which is characterized by a unique flora and fauna, due to the abundant food supply of nature. Here the protected nature flourishes differently than in other cold and barren parts of the country. In addition, we are located at the end of the fjord arm with many freshwater inflows. The weather is magical in this place. The rainforest means not plenty of rain, but a harmonious balanced forest ecosystem.

For your first visit I strongly suggest you to stay for 1-4 weeks to see how you like it here. There may be always a possibility of extending your stay. I ask for your understanding and respect for our decision if not ,as this is is our private home, comfort zone and retreat.

Please make sure you have full medical travel insurance, this is your responsibility only! Also check on the regulations for travelling from your country to norway, as an adult traveller, also your responsibility.

The wifi situation right now is that we have in our main house wifi on limited hours per day. The internet access is limited, so I ask you to ensure you have your own mobile data.

We provide you with grocerys, quality tea, coffee...
We have instruments you can borrow, and a kanu, kajakk. Everyone has own private room, people travelling with a warm tent or their own motor home can be always welcomed. More about accommodation, the help, please read underneath.

We are about a 30min drive from the nearest town, so we try to only go into town for shopping about once a week. Volunteers should bear this mind when deciding to stay with us. We are quite isolated, you should be prepared to enjoy the solitude and peace that this place offers and experience an authentic life in the wilderness.
We pay great attention to biodiversity, so no speciesm on this farm. We appreciate different kinds of living forms. You will definetly get lots of interactions with animals around here. There can be a tricky part of norwegian summers in the untouched nature, but it is definetly part of the norwegian culture: question: in norway you will recognize a happy biker how? correct: he has a lot of mosquitos between his teeth.
Joke aside, orignally the ranch was used for sheep and forest production. Right now we have chickens, turkeys & sheep, the old norwegian viking race.
We own breeding chickens, some old and endangered, and we put focus on a fulfilling life for the colorful flock. Some of them are much more farm members. But they also serve self-sufficiency. Eggs and brother roosters 2-3 times/year for meat production. (Own consulting!) Every visitor is free to help. Our aim is not to sell produce, but to support an abundant ecosystem and diverse, thriving ecology. We do personally no longer believe in a supermarket tree on which meat grows. Also the nearest supermarket is 30 km away. We take responsibility for ourselves and try to get closer to roots bit by bit. Little steps... We intend to work with herbs and traditional home remedies. We try to use almost everything, either for us, the animals or plants. If you by any chance know more about farming, permaculture, herbalism, youre most welcome to share your practices.
Permaculture is more we want to learn about. It would be cool to grow together. We want you to get to know the culture at our little retreat and become a part of it, while we get to know you. You can either escape a hectic city life, expand your knowledge, help us out or just explore, how life could look like on a small farm in norway.

We are welcoming & easy going women, but as we share our very private home with you, if you are any of the following you will definitely not be a good fit for here :
    - dependant on wifi, mobile phone usage the whole day (we proudly keep radiation low at this place and from our bodies)
    - hysterical with bugs, spiders, mosquitos...wilderness
    - reliant on drugs of all kinds
    - expecting city action, not excited to explore here natures facettes by your own, as this is a remote place
    - can not respect our privacy
    - overly religious
    - afraid to be/work in rain

In your application: if it isn't in your profile already, please describe your skills and maybe, why you want to choose our place to be part of your workaway experience, and if you are experienced with the concept of workaway. I am telling you what under "help" what we are looking for, please describe us what you could be able to help with.

Furthermore I want to encourage people to come here, who believe in their natural immune system and the power of mother nature. We trust on home remedies and try to include them more in our daily life. We encourage independancy and freedom over fear in personal choices...

Prepare to see mooses and during spring even some reindeers wandering on our fields of our Sami neighbor. Maybe an eagle or seals.
We would really love to have company and of course help as well. Most of the tasks demands that you can help independently and understands the certain responsibility to it. We are searching for people, who want to fit in the lifestyle and can see work by themselves. As this is a first generation farming project we aren't experts ourselves, so you are very welcome to sometimes come up with solutions, improvements, DIY plans by yourselves, We usually use the books, internet as a source for project inspirations. As self explaining as it is, I ask you to be honest about your skills ...

Although we admire norwegian nature‘s calm and quiet, it is still exciting to meet people and having a good time.

Of course we don't ask you to have any special skills (but if you do so, you are very welcome to tell us more about it). We ask you to be animal friendly, appreciative of nature and bring a good mood. The daily routine varies from your skills. We are usually asking for 5 h/5days a week, normal maintaining like cleaning up, or cooking/preparing the meals is not included in that time.

We are looking for workawayers, (single travelers, couples, groups…), starting from their mid twenties til no limit. This is because we expect from you a certain degree of independence and self-determination from you in daily tasks, without constant supervision/further direction. Learning by doing.
The 5 of us settled in this little paradise now and we put our heart (& sweat) into this project by building up all of this out of nowhere.
Now let's give some love to this place.
😊 We look forward to get to know you !have you!

All of us have been positive tested with „Wanderlust“ to explore the world. I did for example a workaway myself in New Zealand. Furthermore we have been travelling through many countries of this world, and each journey enrichened our life, so we are a very welcoming family. We think with that knowledge, we, as your hosts, know how to make it an unforgetable & comfortable experience for you.
We appreciate learning from other cultures, other people's experiences and backgrounds. We are quite passionate about our new life in norway and trust in the project, that we do. We are a german family, that moved to norway. Learning norwegian ourselves. We speak fluently english, german and beginner in italian and norwegian. We love food, using it as a vessel to explore other cultures. We will share our knowledge and experiences, but also learn together. You will learn some basic farm life skills for survival and how to take properly care of animals and plants. We are learning ourselves. We welcome you to join in free-time activities like: go hiking, exploring the region, making delicious food over open fire, watching wild life, ice bathing, practice meditation, swimming, playing boardgames, learning ice fishing, dart, teach the chickens a trick, LOTR marathon, kanuing, do some fishing for a good meal & filling the freezer, learning together norwegian knitting, Trying out beer brewing/making cheese, yoghurt or butter, Berry picking, mushroom hunt, diving or yoga are two things we always wanted to learn... We like good conversations, music, working together on projects and the reward of a job well-done. You can have an adventure and become part of here by helping building up our oasis.
