Kia Ora!
We are a family of 6 with four children under 12. We live on Great Barrier Island which we believe is a very special part of New Zealand. We are homeschooling / unschooling our beautiful children and wish for them to meet people from all over the world. You will be warmly welcomed into our bustling, creative and caring home.

Here we live in harmony with the seasons, the land, sea and sky. We are part of a small, isolated, but friendly community. Our property is off grid, with independent systems for electricity and water. We are an unschooling family, which is a lifestyle in itself, a radical way to approach education and life. While staying with us, we will make sure you have opportunities to explore this amazing island, tramping, biking, hiking, sailing, swimming, surfing, diving, fishing, adventures aplenty!

We are seeking a helper for assistance with household chores, child care, animal care, gardening and some house sitting. Accommodation in exchange for 3 hours work per day / 4 days a week, while we are home, and house sitting animal care if we are away. We have a sail boat that we use to get to the mainland for travels and trips around the island when the weather is nice. We would really like those that could stay with us for a month or so. We have found that it takes a while for the children to feel relaxed around helpers and for helpers to understand how our household works and be truely helpful. You need time to explore this large island with it's many magical places!

You will have your own private sleep out accomodation with a comfy queen sized bed, and simple cooking facilities. We will share the evening meal, but you will be able to have your own breakfast and lunch in your own space. You will have your own toilet, but will need to share our bathroom for showering. Our home is at the top of a 3 minute walking track, surrounded by ancient pohutukawa trees with stunning views over the ocean. We are situated in the heart of Tryphena, within walking distance to beaches, shops, cafes and pubs.
