Anaïs came to us with an agreed plan of stripping down and repainting shutters, but unfortunately a heatwave put paid to those plans! She quickly spotted a need to tidy up the garden of our rental property, Villa Amande, and was happy to go down there and work away by herself very early in the morning. We completely trusted her judgement with the
… read more garden and she was 100% right, it looked lovely when she was finished - it still has a slightly wild and natural feel to it, but with some of the ragged edges trimmed off!
She's a very willing worker and easy to live with - she has the same attitude to food as us (as local and sustainable as possible) and cooked for us a couple of evenings. It was almost like having a family member staying in the house.
With her strong background in Art, she was extremely helpful for me as I prepared for and set up my very first exhibition. And the fact that she is bilingual means that my artist's statement reads as well in French as it does in English!
Our dogs loved her and missed her when she left...
We wish you bon continuation on your travels, Anaïs!

Meeting Martine and George was such a great Workaway experience. Both are warm, funny, and very inspiring people. They welcomed me into their home, and allowed me to share their everyday lives as expats in a tiny Provence village. I enjoyed the many laughs we had about the French language in general, and about the obscene number of words one

Although they were once outsiders, it is beautiful to see how well integrated they both are in the life of their adoptive village. I was amazed at how hard they both work at learning French. Martine is already quite fluent, and George is getting there slowly but surely. Bravo !
Reillanne is such a surprising village: small yet full of life and beauty. Both Martine and George made sure I would also get to experience the many faces of Haute-Provence during my stay. Thanks to them, I was able to visit lavender fields in Valensole and Roman ruins in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, walk around the “massif des ocres” in Lubéron, and enjoy a very special multimedia art exhibition in Les Baux-de-Provence.
I was in Reillanne during a 41 degree heat wave. I got up early every morning and went to work in the garden of their beautiful villa Amande. In the afternoon, I worked indoors to escape the heat. I gave a few coats of paint on the bathroom walls, and helped Martine with the translation of documents for her very first solo arts exhibition (you go girl!).
Au revoir Martine et George ! Ce fût un vrai plaisir de vous rencontrer ainsi que Rosy, Cookie et Casey.Vous pouvez seulement contacter les workawayers avec une adhésion active.

Jamie and Symone worked very enthusiastically and very well, painting, gardening and sanding down chairs. They're really easy company and fitted seamlessly into our lives. They're both vegans and they were very keen to cook for us to share their favourite foods but also completely independent about catering for themselves on the nights we were out
… read more or if we had a meat craving!
Communications with respect to arriving and leaving were spot-on, in fact I can't think of a single thing that did not work out with their visit.
The doggies will miss them!

My girlfriend and I had an absolutely delightful 9 days at Martine and George’s and would thoroughly recommend them to all workawayers. They had a lovely home and a charming second home (a gite) which they rent out to holiday makers, and we really enjoyed working on both properties. Our work included gardening in their potager, general shrubbery
… read more work, painting the walls of their gite and sanding and painting furniture. As they mention in their profile it wasn’t quite breaking rocks, but it was honest, hard work that proved to be very satisfactory once completed, and once completed our reward was either a swim at the gite, go to the local bar or just chill and play with their lovely dogs!
Martine and George had a vast knowledge of Provence and the surrounding areas and drove us to some truly breath taking places, providing us with really interesting facts about each one. Notable places they took us were Saut de Moine, Gorge du Verdon (also known as the French Grand Canyon), and the town of Aix-en-Provence which you should research before seeing them just to see how beautiful they are.
We shared dinner with them most nights and had really interesting conversations with them which made the entire experience all the more wholesome. Once again I would thoroughly recommend a trip to Martine and George’s place. The great weather and surrounding scenery whilst working made it hardly seem like work at all, and again it was very rewarding.Vous pouvez seulement contacter les workawayers avec une adhésion active.
