    Description

Hi! We have a sheep farm with approximately 130 sheep of native norwegian breeds, 2 horses, 3 border collies and two cats. In addition we have a machinecompany that among other produce firewood and another little company that do a bit of therapeutic horsebackriding.

We live in northern Norway. The land of the Northern Lights and the midnight sun, in the beautifull valley of Bardu (2,5 hour drive from Tromsø, 1,5 hour from Senja). The farm is quite remote, with few neighbours, so you will always find peace and quiet here. There is no lightpollution to keep you from seeing the stars and the Aurora (northern lights). And you will be free to use our fireplace by the river, to set up your hammock if you want to enjoy the midnight sun in the summer. We have a lot of campingsupplies for both summer and wintertime, that you can borrow as well. The farm lies just bellow a mountain, so you can go mountainhiking from just outside the door. There is a National park just a couple of kilometeres from the farm, and numerous mountains to investigate if you'd like.

The farmbuilding have a modern appartment that will be your place to live, if you want to work for us. You will of course be invited to share our meals when you wish to, but also have a place for yourself to do as you please 😊

The climate here is typical for inland northern Norway. In the summer we can have +30 °C, with no wind, and no airhumidity. In the winter we can get down to -30°C also no humidity. We can get blizzards in an instant, and 1 meter of snowfall in a day or two. So the weather might change by the minute, and always gives us something to talk about 😅😂

We will provide free room and board, and pay a minimum wage by norwegian standards. Extra effort will result in bonuspay. We will always strive to make sure you have sparetime to enjoy the beautiful nature around the farm 😍 and we will of course help you to visit other locations in the area, if you'd like.

Our former helper has become like a daughter to us! Will you be the next to join our little family?

Welcome to us! Welcome to your next big adventure! We'll be pleased to have you! 🥰

Coming to our farm you will experience native norwegian farming. We have an old timberhouse on the farm that is kind of like a museum, Even ehough not open for the public. There are different fairs in the area, that we will taket you to if you'd like. There are also some touristattractions we could visit when there is room for it between farmwork.
As said you will be invited to share our meals when you'd like, and the older uncle on the farm will make sure to invite you for coffee and limonades regularly.
You will always be welcome to join us when we have guests, to learn more about the norwegian culture, and we are always excited to learn about other parts of the world! We would love to hear about the place you Come from, and see pictures! As farmers we don't get to travel much, but have found work-awayers to be able to "show us the world" from a whole other perspective! 😍

Lambingseason at our place starts around the 5th of May. And then begins the most hectic time of year, but also a beautiful time!
We want to be very honest about what you can expect, so you can evaluate wheter you think you can handle it.

Watching all the lambs being born, get to their feet, and helping them find the lifegiving first milk, is mostly a very beautiful process! But, it is'nt all the romance it might seem.

To stay with us this time of year, you need to be able to handle touching slime, shit and all kinds of goo as we often have to give pravtical birthaid. You need to be able to hold and control a 100kg of sheep. And you need to be able to handle lambs gjetting sick and dying, without being to traumatized, cause it will happen.

You will be expected to take a lot of responsibility, but also know when you are in over your head, and know when to call for help.

This time of year, there has to be someone in the barn 24/7, and we often work 12-16 hour shifts. The work happens when the sheep need us, but there will be room for breaks inbetween.
But when there is an ongoing labour, we have to be there. No matter how tired or hungry we are.

In the beginning you will of course not be alone in the barn, and for the entire season you can always call us to get help, but hopefully you will eventually find it okay to be alone in the barn a couple of hours.

We feed the sheep two times a day, and the workload increases as more lambs are born. We do milkrounds for the little ones multiple times a day.

When the last lamb is born, we celebrate! Cause all of us can finally sleep at night! 🥰

After this, our focus is to get all the sheep out of the barn as soon as the weather allows it. We make fences for them outside, and later walk them up the mountain using our three heardingdogs in the process. For every sheep walked up the mountain, the workload decreases again 🥰 and our own fitnesslevel increases dramatically this time of year 😂

But fear not: inbetween all this we will have a lot of fun to! You will get to experience great joy, and satisfaction in mastering things you probably never dreamed of 😊 playing with the bottlelambs and watching them jump around and playing when they get fresh clean covers, is always a blast 😁

If you seem able to, you can probably try to use the wheeloader, excavator and drive the ATV. You'll witness spring flying by in a day or two, as it always does here. And you can go horsebackriding, fishing or camping on your sparetime, if you'd like.
In the midst of all this, we will celebrate the National day of Norway 17th of May! 🇧🇻🥳

We will have barbeques, and guests coming by to talk, and watch the lambs. And if we are up to it, we will arrange "open farm" for the local community to come visit in the middle of june.

Inbetween all this, and the rest of the year, the work requested are:
    - Walking dogs
    - Feeding sheep
    - Stacking firewood, and helping in the forest when we bring it out
    - Some general maintnance on the farm like painting
    - Maybe Training horses and/or help with the therapeutic riding..?
    - Maybe some machinework if you have the right licences (excavator, wheal loader, tractor ect)
    - Fencing
    - Herding and checking on the sheep
    - Snowshoveling
    - help with simple maintenance on the machines
    - cleaning equipment from lambing season, and the barn itself when all the sheep are outside.

(Will add more as I can Come up with it)
