I had the most wonderful experience staying at Kai’s place last summer, and I truly regret taking so long to write this review! The three weeks I spent there were incredibly enriching—I learned so much and will carry these memories with me forever.

… read more made me feel at home from day one. It’s important to note that this is a rustic countryside setting, so anyone coming should be prepared for that, but it only adds to the charm of the experience.
During my stay, my main tasks involved carob harvesting and general garden maintenance. The work was rewarding, and being surrounded by nature made it even more enjoyable.
On top of everything, Kai is a fantastic cook, and I will always be grateful for his incredible meals!
If you’re looking for an authentic and rewarding Workaway experience, I absolutely recommend this place!

Me and matthijs travel to portugal with thought and interest in living off the grid and more self-esteem. Now, we learn a lot cause kaj you are a great natural teacher. Matthijs learned a lot in construction building. I ( babette) learned a lot over plants and how to deal with the dry climate in the algarve. He shared amazing meals with us.. and
… read more beers :). We enjoyed this time so so much, Kaj you are a amazing guy with a great look on the world. He is very friendly and it felt from day 1 as home. The last days we spent also time with your lovely daughters.
We came with our mini van and we had the opportunity to create our own space down the land. He build a shower for us and we build our table so we could do the dishes by our self. In our freetime we enjoyed the beautiful beaches. We took our dogs with us and they were both so welcome and became friends with Lumi ( kaj's dog) and the chickens. I can write hours over this amazing and first workaway experience! In Dutch and German we say it was "gezellig " . It’s so hard to put my experience while staying with Kai and his wonderful daughters Emelina and Jona into words. I only intended to stay 1 or 2 weeks, but it soon turned out that this would simply be too short, so I finally stayed for 6 weeks. They felt like family for me right from the beginning. Kai is a very good cook and was also open to
… read more vegan food. We even went to a vegan restaurant one evening. Besides, Kai is also a great surf teacher and generally very relaxed and just goes with the flow. We went to the beach almost every day and had inspiring late-night conversations. He really integrated me into his daily life what I appreciated a lot. As Kai had to go to Madeira due to his work, he even let me look after his house while being away. But I’ve never been completely alone as his lovely dog Lumi kept me company and even my sister joined me after a couple of days. I’m very grateful for all those wonderful moments with Kai and his daughters and they will for sure have a place in my heart forever. Matt stayed with me and my kids for almost 2 weeks.
He was a great help in all aspects of this countryside lifestyle. He installed a whole solar-light system in the workawayer accomodation and additionally to that the water and pump system that will in the future supply the outside kitchen and shower.

Besides that Matt is a really nice and friendly spirit to have around. We had nice evenings together sharing thoughts and ideas. He integrated into the family life like an old friend. Very comforting.
I hope he will pay us a visit the next time his journey allows him into these regions.

What a wonderful time! Kai was my second host during my stay in Portugal and after spending there over 2 weeks I didn't want to leave! The place where he lives is very stunning (a few minutes ride from the closest beach). … read more meals but also thoughts and beers (Kai also gave me some surfing tips)! The work I did was very flexible and dependent on me. I did the electric installation in a campervan, and some plumbing jobs with preparing water pump for the outside kitchen and shower. My friend Kinga did some garden jobs, carpentry, and house cleaning. I also have to say Kai has two wonderful daughters Jona and Emelina and a friendly barking dog - Lumi. Surely I will come back there again! Thanks!

Kinga stayed with her friend for a couple of days.
We had a lot of fun the lot of us and Kinga and Matt had a lot to contribute to our family life.
I can recomend this workawayer to anyone out there looking for someone with open eyes to see what is needed in and around the house.

Superhost!
I stayed at Kai's beautiful place just for a week but it was long enough to feel like home. I've done some simple jobs around the house, mainly cleaning and making it all neat, which I enjoyed a lot! Moreover I did help Kai a bit in his workshop, I'm grateful he introduced me there! The girls are charming and active, they will steal
… read more your heart in a minute, as well as the dog and cat and chickens (and all the animals coming by sometimes). The place is settled in a beautiful hill not far from the coast. A great thing was that we could choose our jobs and the time we prefer to work, so we could easily plan some trip to the beach, city or just rest whenever we needed. Together with my friend we slept in a remade campervan which is planned to have it's own kitchen and shower, for now we enjoyed cooking together (delicious food) with family. It is a place you'll be willing to go back to!
