Description
Hi, I’m Fifi from Sengkang, a small and warm town in Wajo, South Sulawesi. I spend my days between the kitchen and the classroom as a Head Pastry Chef specializing in artisan cheesecakes, and as an English tutor and community mentor.
I run a small private English program, focusing on basic grammar using the Scholastic method, and I’m also a weekly mentor at a junior high school.
Here, we welcome volunteers who are open to sharing, learning, and simply being part of our daily life.
At the junior high school, volunteers support the growth of both teachers and students through English based activities. The main focus is helping local English teachers explore more creative ways of teaching, while encouraging students especially in the English CLUB to speak with more confidence.
Beyond the classroom, you can also connect with our local art community dance, music, and painting where English becomes a fun and natural part of expression, not just something from a textbook.
Every volunteer brings something different. Your ideas, your stories, your culture they all become part of the experience here. In return, you’ll get to know the rhythm of life in Sengkang, from simple daily moments to traditional culture like silk weaving and local food.
At the end of your stay, we usually create simple certificates together for the students, as a small but meaningful recognition of what they’ve learned in English.
Personally, I’m not a native English speaker, so having volunteers here really makes a difference not just for me, but for the whole community.
At home, things are just as simple and real. My child is also a student in the school. He understands English quite well, but like many kids, he just needs a little push to speak more. If you’re around, even small daily conversations with him can make a big difference.
You’re also welcome at the café where I work, it’s a relaxed place where you can meet locals, share stories, and experience everyday life in a natural way.
If you enjoy meaningful connections, simple living, and being part of a community, you’ll feel at home here.
Note (May Volunteers Needed):
We are currently looking for volunteers to join our English Camp in May with the theme “Super Me – Discover Your Magic.”
This is a special program focused on helping students build confidence, express themselves, and enjoy learning English through fun activities. If you enjoy working with young learners and bringing positive energy, this would be a great time to join us.

Echange culturel et opportunités d'apprendre
Travellers can experience real local life here meeting teachers, chatting with students, joining school activities, and seeing how English is practiced in a small Indonesian community.
You’ll share your language and culture, and in return, learn ours: local food, daily habits, simple Indonesian phrases, and even how traditional Sengkang silk is made.
It’s less about formal teaching, and more about connection. Laughing together, cooking together, exchanging stories, and slowly watching students grow more confident speaking English.
You’ll teach, but you’ll also learn often in ways you don’t expectfrom the people you meet and the moments you share.
