… read more sanding furniture. Our feedback would be that communication could be improved and possibly an understanding of the reality of a remote placement in wintertime in Ireland. One major advice for other hosts is to ensure no down feathers in bedding, as Marnie is allergic however its not listed on her profile.
Marnie is a very creative and interesting person, we all had some good conversations together and were glad of her help during her stay

Océane was a fabulous, helpful sweet girl and so easy to live with during her time with us. Flo was a very kind and down to earth guy and it was really nice hanging out with him at the beginning of the New Year. Edel and Luke were very kind hosts. I stayed with them for 12 days and I had a lovely time exploring cold Donegal. Instructions were always very clear and I felt like a valuable part of the house. Also, not forgetting all the good times saving the turf in the bog!! We got a lot done and Gloria was also very active and really got into the local area on her daily runs. It was with Gloria that we realised that having workawayers choosing their own food is a better option and also how to make the days and expectations more structured, and how important clear communication is. Words can't describe how adorable Edel and Luke are. It was amazing had baths together in the Ocean, I'll keep those memories forever in my heart. The nature in Donegal is breathtaking and you will have plenty of occasions to hike, explore, get in contact with yourself.
I only want you to visit them if you are reliable and really want to give them a hand. Because they deserve only THE BEST. I stayed at Edel and Luke's for two weeks in October 2024 and I happily remember that time.
During the first week, I took care of the house and the animals while Edel and Luke were on holiday. They provided me with clear instructions about the tasks, which included painting doors and cleaning the house, as well as the daily chores, which involved
… read more preparing food for the six chickens and the three cats and feeding them. All of the animals are very sweet and every moment I spent with them brought them closer to my heart.
Even though Luke and Edel were not physically present at the house, I never felt left alone since I could either watch the explanatory videos they had created or send them a message, which they quickly replied to.
After they returned, I enjoyed getting to know them even more. They are a very kind and warm-hearted couple and always asked if I needed anything. Both are very knowledgeable about the region, with its stunning nature and interesting history. The insightful conversations, the delicious meals and the films we watched together in front of a cosy fire made me feel like being at home.
If you're looking for a place with amazing hospitality, lovely people and animals and where a mountain meets the coastline, this is the place to go. Edel and Luke are very knowledgeable people, we talk several times about their culture, their people and their places... Ireland is a magnificent country, the treatment you receive here is rare, kindness is a virtue of many, I was very lucky not only for them but also for their friends, who took care of me while they were away.
Some places have given me emotions that I'll never forget, Edel and Luke live in a place surrounded by wonder, among all the "must" destinations you absolutely cannot miss a typical irish brunch and a swim in the ocean, I assure you that it is more than a unique experience, it takes courage but it's worth it !!!

Their house is set in a magical place which brought me a lot of piece of mind. I thoroughly enjoyed having one of the cats, Sutty, on my lap while I enjoyed the beautiful and breathtaking view.
Edel and Luke are also very accomodating so they made sure I could visit places like the incredible Glenveagh National Park.

These animals were lovely, very welcoming and I loved to take care of them. This is a fantastic place for taking a walk, meditating and the view from the house is really amazing.
We were able to spend few days together after their vacation before I leaved. And it was amazing!
We went to the sea and they made me to discover the irish turf, I helped Edel's special friend to organize her birthday party, we made a delicious cake, and I was invited. Moreover, Edel lent me a gorgeous jacket for the event!
I'll never forget all of their friends and that fun-filled evening of dancing and laughing! I really enjoyed the traditional Irish breakfast we had as we say our goodbyes. Edel and Luke's cats, chickens and rooster gave me fun conpany, until a fox came along and snatched one of the chickens. So sad. Not easy to share that news, but both Edel and Luke took it well. Such is life indeed!

You’d be hard pressed to find a couple as lovely as Edel and Luke. I spent two peaceful weeks with them in their beautiful home in late April to early May, and it was a wonderful time. We all share a love of books and cats, so I felt right at home there! I miss my snuggles with Tumney, who is about the snuggliest cat I’ve ever met.

… read more part, I helped Edel with some indoor tasks, although I also helped Luke with clearing out the shed, and I got to chop some wood as well, which is an excellent workout! Towards the end of my stay, I housesat for a few days, as they were in Dublin for the weekend. Edel and Luke are great about communicating expectations and they made sure I was comfortable and had everything I needed throughout my time there.
They live in a quiet and remote area, so I would say it’s easier to explore it if you have your own car. However, you can also get around by walking, buses, and taxis, and even hitchhiking! People are very friendly in Gortahork – on a couple occasions, somebody offered me a ride as I was walking into town. Also, Edel and Luke gave me rides, and I got to explore the beach, Ards forest park, and other beautiful areas. I even got to go to a trad session in the Shamrock pub, which was so much fun. The two Sundays I was there, I went to church at Holy Trinity in Dunfanaghy, and everyone there was very welcoming.

My stay with Edel and Luke was absolutely amazing.
Before I arrived they made sure, that I had enough groceries for the week and even got some irish snacks for me (which were really good).
My tasks were mainly taking care of the animals and keeping the house clean, while they were away, which allowed me to have enough free time (I spend a lot of

It was also no problem for me to ask them any kind of question at any time of the day and they helped me to figure everything out.
The view from the house is absolutely incredible and if the weather is nice enough, it’s a great area for a walk.

We had a great week with Luci and Emilia! They whirlwinded in and did so much painting for us in a short space of time, cleaned really well too and were so good with our cats and chickens, Would highly recommend both these girls. … read more while they were painting the hall - it sounded like a choir of angels out there!! Just beautiful to listen to. I really enjoyed bringing them to yoga with me and Luke had a great time at the music session with them, they packed a lot in and were very proactive. Both will go far in life!

… read more really enjoyed going for walks in the stunning nature around the house. We were very lucky with the weather. The offered us to drive us to places whenever possible. So we could go to a yoga class together with Edel, climbed the local mountain on a free day, visited the beach one evening and even could join a music session in a local pub, which was an amazing experience. Thank you Luke and Edel, for that wonderful week in the calm countryside!

Ah dear little Romane, we had a great workaway experience with her! She greeted us with a hug as natural as though we had known eachother for years, and we clicked straight away. … read more upbeat. The work was done to a good standard and she was great with the animals. Also, very brave at trying new things and it was nice that our friends (who are neighbours of ours and) that do workaway also had a female workawayer so they spent some time together, fond memories particularly of us all dressing up as The Sopranos for Halloween! I would have no hesitation for recommending Romane for any workaway placement and beyond.

I spent a month with Edell and Luke. It was my first workaway experience, so I was a little apprehensive. But Luke and Edell were lovely to me, they put me at ease straight away. We were able to discuss a lot, on all subjects! They did everything to ensure that we understood each other well. I really enjoyed talking with them.

I had a budget each week to buy what I wanted to eat.
Some of the work around the house and outside was varied, I helped install seaweed for their plants in their garden, I put together some furniture, I also learned how to make toothpaste!
Other work had to be done regularly: feeding the cats and hens, cleaning the house once a week, taking out the trash, etc.
But I always had plenty of free time! Thanks to this, I was able to take the opportunity to go for walks near their home, and see magnificent rural landscapes. I also did lots of other things:
Luke and Edell took me to many places, to see the area and the culture. I loved it. Donegal is truly a magnificent region.
I was able to climb the highest peak of Donnegal, the Mount Errigal. I also went to see several traditional Irish music concerts, go to an Irish dance session (not easy at all haha), go to the pub to watch rugby, ( Luke is a big fan!), swimming in the ocean (it was easy for them, not for me haha) and we even dressed up together with friends for a costume party, where we had a lot of fun!
That was truly a great experience!

We stayed 1 week in this beautiful place. We were alone the most of the time because Luc and Edel were in travel.
We have to take care of the cats and the hens. It was not really difficult ! Especially because Edel and Luc gave us all the informations we needed (even more haha).
