Description
Beautiful green Cantabria is calling!
Our little corner of the earth is rustic and cozy in a small hamlet amidst the Cantabrian Cordillera, situated just 1/2 an hour from the coast and its beautiful beaches, and one hour to both Bilbao and Santander. We rebuilt this stone and timber house from a 300 year old crumbling ruin using sustainable building practices. The house incorporates a passive solar design and features all the comforts of a modern home including bioclimatic insulation, compostable toilets, onsite water filtration, woodstove and pellet boiler, solar panels and infloor heating. The materials used in the house needed to meet our criteria for a healthy, eco friendly, efficient home built by hand, often sourced locally.
We are a small family, Jasmine is Canadian, Javi is Spanish/Basque, our son Emeric is 13 years old. Our lovely sheep dog Ginger, friendly cat Maui, and a few chickens round out our small clan, there are some little fish too.
We always have a few projects that we´d like to tackle and if you would like to come and give us a hand we´d really appreciate it.
Right at the moment we're looking for several individuals who would like to help us with our spring projects. The landscaping has been years in the making, the paint waiting to be applied and the trees are ready for pruning and mulching. We'll be laying a pathway from our lane to the house and fixing up natural fencing on our property for our neighbour's sheep to graze on our land.
There's so much to explore in the area, come and enjoy the plethora of hiking trails, caves, rock climbing, via ferrata, and spectacular beaches while you soak up the country life in northern rural spain.

We can offer a mixed cultural experience, european and canadian. Lots of time outdoors, delicious food. When the weather is nice we sometimes head to the beach in the afternoon. A chance to brush up on your english or spanish, learn about horses, gardening, food preserving....
Aide
There are many opportunities around here both indoors and out. On our property we have fruit trees and a vegetable garden, there´s landscaping work to be done and a few heavier projects we´d love some help with.

Hébergement
For house-sits the entire house is available. For Workaway stays we have a private room, shared bathroom (guest bathroom/powder room) also a motorhome parked out under the trees for a family.
