  Description

  Our off grid farm is situated at an altitude of 950m in the central Alpujarras on the southern slopes of the Sierra Nevada. Although we are several kilometers from the nearest village we are part of a community of farms with other like minded people close by. We have 2.5 hectares of mixed orchards (mainly olives, almonds and figs) much of which we are transforming into Forest Garden. We have a medium sized vegetable garden, a natural swimming pool and a traditionally built cottage. We practice organic agriculture and try to implement permaculture principles and methods. We also have 1 or 2 horses, a few chickens, a cat and 2 dogs. Volunteer accommodation is in a 5m geodesic dome with wood burning stove that can sleep 3 and/or a small caravan. Both are close to a hot shower, compost toilet and the pool.
  Our diet is mainly vegetarian and we happily cater for vegan needs, but meat is occasionally eaten and cooked in the house.
  
  
  Nuestra finca está situada a 950m de altitud en las Alpujarras centrales, en la cuesta sur de la Sierra Nevada. Aún que estamos a varios kilómetros de los pueblos más cercanos, vivimos en una pequeña aldea/cortijada con gente muy amable en los alrededores. Tenemos 2,5 hectarias de terreno, principalmentes con olivos, almendros, higueras y frutales. Hay también una huerta de medio tamaño, una piscina natural/alberca y un cortijo tradicional en continua reforma. Practicamo agricultura ecológica intentando poner en practica los principio y métodos de la permacultura. Tenemos tambien uno o dos caballos, algunas gallinas, una gata y dos perras. El alojamiento de los voluntarios es en una tienda geodesica (geodesic dome), con estufa, donde pueden dormir tres personas. Estas cerca de la ducha (caliente), el compost toilet, y la piscina.
  Nuestra dieta es principalmente vegetariana, pero podemo cocinar para veganos tambien sin problemas. En la casa se consuma carne ocasionalmente.

  We have found in the past that our volunteers have benefitted from the experience an off grid low impact rural lifestyle, some have even been inspired to take up a similar lifestyle themselves. Other benefits have been an introduction to the basic principles of permaculture and sustainable agriculture in a dry mediterranean climate.
  Many people have also benefitted from our being a multilingual household (Fluent Spanish, English and Italian).

  We are a couple of hours by bus from Granada, which has a livelymusic and cultural scene. The Alpujarras, where we live, is a prime area for trekking, mountain biking, horse riding and climing.
