    Description

We (Susan, Jeff, Zuzana, and Nikki) are a small team running a non-for-profit foundation that offers wellness retreats in the spectacular Cascade Mountains in Tulameen, British Columbia. Our guests come here to experience the healing power of nature and spirit through meditation, yoga, animal therapy, forest therapy, energy healing and massage - all in a spectacular wilderness setting.

Our property features expansive flower gardens, a small orchard, a Labyrinth, large organic vegetable garden and greenhouse. We also have a number of friendly therapy animals - free-range chickens and ducks, sheep, miniature goats, and adorable Kune Kune pigs. Workaways can help with the care of the animals and enjoy time with them as much as they'd like to.

Our place is an idyllic oasis surrounded by the true rugged wilderness of the mountains, and if you love adventure in the outdoors this is the perfect place for you. The mountains provide opportunity for beautiful day hikes, the Tulameen river is perfect for a refreshing swim during the summer, and nearby Otter Lake is the perfect place for kayaking (we can provide the kayaks).

Your accommodation is a self-contained and totally private log cabin with incredible views. It's located a 20-minute walk or 5 minute ATV ride from our home. It's a wonderful space for couples or families.

The retreat centre is set in a beautiful and wild natural setting in the Tulameen River Valley. Our expansive 200-acre property is surrounded by the wilderness of the Cascade Mountains. Coming here will give you a chance to experience the wilderness and natural beauty of a wild part of Canada.

Retreat-founders Sue and Jeff are also natural history filmmakers and have a long career making wildlife films for television companies like the BBC, PBS, CBC, Discovery Channel, Netflix and more. Their work has been seen around the world in over 80 countries. So they have a strong understanding and connection to the natural world.

There is also a chance to experience more spiritual practices. Meditation, yoga, and energy healing are part of the retreat experience and its possible for Workaways to be experience some of this as well if they are interested.

Most of the work will be outdoors in the beautiful surroundings of the gardens - watering, mowing, weeding, planting and harvesting. We have expansive flower gardens, a small orchard, a Labyrinth, large organic vegetable garden and greenhouse, and we are working towards self-sufficiency in our production of fruits and vegetables.

We have many friendly animals here - baby-doll sheep, miniature goats, Kune Kune pigs, free range chickens and ducks. We also have a beautiful koi pond with more than 30 beautiful large koi fish. Workaways can help with the care of the animals as much as they'd like to. These animals are all affectionate pets and are part of the experience.

As well, we will have various building and DIY projects that we could use help with. Workawayers with building skills are always greatly appreciated.

There will not be any work associated with any paying guests that come to the retreats - no cleaning, no cooking, and no maintenance on retreat buildings.

Your accommodation is a self-contained and totally private log cabin with incredible views. It's located a 20-minute walk or 5 minute ATV ride from our home. It's a wonderful space for couples or families.

If a quiet, beautiful, off-grid mountain sanctuary in the Canadian wilderness is your cup of tea then this is the place for you! The cabin has its own wood stove for heat (if needed) and propane stove for preparing hot drinks and breakfast. Please be aware it is off grid so there is no power or running water. The bathroom facility is a nearby outhouse. Showers and bathroom facilities with running water are available at the retreat centre as well as in our home.

Lunches and dinners are prepared and served at the retreat centre or in our home. All meals served are plant-based (vegan) and sourced with fresh, vibrant, local and organic ingredients, and we harvest as much as possible from our gardens. During retreat dates, we employ a world-class vegan chef and during non-retreat dates, we cook delicious vegan comfort food in our home kitchen.

If you prefer different accommodation to the cabin, there may also be the option to stay in a cottage that is part of the retreat centre. The cottages are close to the main house and to bathroom facilities with running water. Please let us know if this your preference.

We are based 3 kms outside of the small community of Tulameen, BC, and 30 kms from the town of Princeton BC. We are able to pickup Workaways from Princeton and get them back there as well. We make regular trips to Princeton for groceries, mail and other supplies and the opportunity to come along is always open. Tulameen offers a small convenience store with some groceries, gas station and restaurant as well. We have mountain bikes that can be used to ride on the many forestry roads in the area. And kayaks for paddling around on the local lakes and rivers.

Our 200 acre property is surrounded by the wilderness of the Cascade Mountains. It is a natural undisturbed forest that is home to many wild animals and travellers will have the opportunity to explore the land and surrounding wilderness. Our home is the last private property in the valley, and though connected by road, fibre internet and telephone to the rest of the world, it feels like living in the true wilderness when you are here.

The Cascade mountains provide opportunity for beautiful day hikes and the Tulameen river that flows out of them is pure and clean and perfect for a refreshing dip during the summer months. Our place is an idyllic oasis surrounded by the rugged wilderness of the mountains. If you love the outdoors and wilderness of Canada then this is the perfect place for you. '

Please note that we only provide vegan meals. We have been vegans for close to a decade now and Sue is an excellent vegan cook. As well during retreats we will have a chef preparing incredible vegan meals.

There is bus service to Princeton – twice a week from Vancouver. its called Mountain Man Mikes Bus Service
The bus arrives from Vancouver on every Sunday or Thursday at 10:40Am and departs to Vancouver every Saturday and Wednesday at 1PM. We will pick you up in Princeton from this bus and take you back here when you are ready to leave. We would like our Workaways to stay at least a week but if you get here and it’s not right for you, we are of course always happy to take you back to Princeton so you can depart early.
