Description
My wife Liina and I, and our two sweet dogs live on an off-grid property in the Frosinone Province of Italy, just 2km from the Abruzzo National park, yet only 1.5 hours from Rome. We are certified permaculture practitioners/teachers and we have a small food forest at its beginning stages, with over 15 fruit trees, 22 olive trees, veggie gardens, and gorgeous views of the mountains and valley below.
There are many things we love most about our area:
there is barely any tourism, it is a bit more real and grounded than the coasts and cities, the people are so friendly and helpful, and the surrounding orchards and farms all for normal living/survival (i.e. not much commercial farming).
Our house is an old stone barn we are continuing to improve while we live in it.
And our guest house is a charming caravan with a deck in front of it with a lovely outdoor kitchen, and a strong and attractive structure built over everything. We only use solar power, but we even have small air conditioners that can run during the sunny part of the day (it gets quite hot here in July and August).
My wife is a long-time yoga teacher and massage therapist. I am a carpenter, musician, and writer. We love cooking good meals (Italian PLUS cuisine from all over the world), hiking and swimming with the dogs, laughing and playing and dancing.Types d'aide et opportunités d'apprendre

Echange culturel et opportunités d'apprendre
There's a small international community locally with occasional activities. Cooking together is always fun for us, especially since so much of the food comes from our gardens! Besides the natural building project Workawayers will work with us on, we are happy to share our permaculture knowledge.
We have already had volunteers stay here in the past two years, and it's been so wonderful to hear stories of people's travels, and learn about food and language. Most importantly, we are interested in what people are doing to deal with the stresses and excesses of modern life, and want to hear what people have to share about facing climate crises, sustainability and connecting with and helping each other.Projets impliquant des enfants

Along with our permacultural interests (we have a food forest on our property that is solely for personal use, we do not sell produce commercially), we are also practicing some sustainable building methods. And this summer we need to plaster the interior walls of our little house. We use all natural lime plasters, and might experiment with some cob/clay on some surfaces. So we need Workawayers to help us sling mud! It is very fun and satisfying, and we will not only be teaching you the methods of mixing and applying the plaster, but also teaching you the advantages of natural mineral plasters when working with stone walls. We will work with you, and although the work takes energy and focus it has no particular strength requirements, and does not require working at any great heights. You just need to be willing to get a little dirty and go up on a short step ladder.

Of course we are especially focused on learning Italian. So if you speak Italian and want to exchange for bettering your English ( and perhaps German), then we would welcome that!Hébergement
The caravan and kitchen are very comfortable and easy and in the shade almost the whole day under a massive grandmother oak tree. There is an out door shower with solar hot water heating (better when sun is on panels), and a composting toilet. You will be amazed at how easy and comfortable this more "natural" lifestyle is....and this is coming from two ex-cityfolk! We do have a gas hot water heater at the house, so if he solar water heaters aren't hot you can always shower/wash at the house. We will provide groceries. As for cooking, breakfast is everyone for themselves, lunch and dinner will be taking turns between all of us. Dishes rotating through everyone.
Autres infos...
No smokers or partiers please.
Workaways can get a ride when we will take trips down to town (5 min by car, 1 hour by foot), or often neighbors are going down and can give rides.Informations complémentaires
