*May 2022 Update*
The weather is quite nice in Colorado right now and we have a 5th wheel & glamping tent one a first come, it's first serve basis for workawayers. Then we will be hitting the ground running pounding tires for the Earthship and actively growing a garden. We also are now connected to StarLink, the fastest satellite internet in the world! Perfect for remote workers.
We are getting booked up quickly for the summer, so please reach out quickly.
We are a 1st gen homesteader family on a quest for self-sustainability. Currently, we have 20+ chickens, 5 goats, and 1 dog, one of which is a livestock guard dog (LGD), he is a Karcachan breed, he is still in training and is very protective of his herd. The greenhouse up and running. The excavating of the Hempcrete/Earthship home is complete, the root cellar is completed, and now we are pounding tires.
We love to eat and will provide 3 meals daily on the days you are working, we would prefer you work 4 X 5 hour days, but we are flexible. We have raised several pigs and often eat pork for dinner, carnitas for Taco Tuesday anyone!? Typical lunches/dinner meals include veggie stir-fry, pizza, pasta, tiki masala, Irish pie, hamburgers or veggie burgers & fries, and chili. We aren't personally vegetarian or vegan, but we end up cooking with lots of veggies. Breakfast is probably our favorite meal of the day, yogurt parfait, pancakes, french toast, loaded oatmeal (apples, cranberries, walnuts, hemp & chia seeds), and omelets from our farm-fresh free-range chickens.
We live very rural, 30 minutes from a grocery store, you NEED transportation.
We're COVID cautious, and respect mandates but understand that vaccines are an individual choice.

If you are looking to make plans for summer 2022, please reach out and let me know. Great area for fishing, hiking, backpacking, camping, mountain biking, 4-wheeling, rafting, and kayaking.
What's an Earthship? A passive solar, thermal mass house that is made of both natural and recycled materials (primarily earth-packed tires), designed by a revolutionary architect named Michael Reynold and there is an entire community in Taos, New Mexico.
We back to thousands of acres of BLM with great access for hiking and exploring old mining trails by foot, atv, or dirtbikes. 1 mile down our private road is the Arkansas River and some sweet little fishing holes. Vallie Bridge recreational site is 3 miles away. Rainbow trail access is just across the river. A professional downhill mnt biker lived here before us and built some epic trails and a mini bmx pump track so bring your bikes! There's a shooting range that goes out to 1200yds, Turkey Rock recreational area is 5 miles down the road. This is a gold mine if you like the Colorado outdoors. Our climate is more alpine desert with Pinon pines, scrub oak, and rocky mnt juniper. On the other side of the river its big dense forests great for mushroom foraging and cooling off in an alpine lake. This valley is considered the banana belt of CO and is also located in the second most concentrated area of 14ers in the world! We really are so lucky to live here and look forward to sharing it with you!
This is a great opportunity for individuals, couples, or families interested in pursuing a self-sustaining lifestyle. We hope this experience will inspire you and give you the skills you need to build your own self-sustaining home in the future. Or at least an idea where to start!
Ce projet peut impliquer des enfants. Pour en savoir plus, consultez nos directives et conseils ici.
Starting this May I will need help primarily pounding tires and setting up forms for our footer.
Not your traditional Earthship tire pounding. If you search "Tristan's foot method" on YouTube that is essentially what I've copied and set up. I use a skid loader instead of a backhoe. Still lots of sledgehammer work but not as much with this setup.
Other things we need help with:
-Getting water to the goats/chickens
-Cleaning up around the property (picking up wood pieces, cardboard, twine, etc.)
-Putting up rain gutters/collection
-Making meals
My wife Cassie owns a professional resume writing business. (She focuses on the military to civilian transition but is an all-around badass in her field!) Maybe there's a potential trade-off if you're in need of a resume or LinkedIn optimization?
We could also use help with some simple homestead chores, fire mitigation in our area is always helpful, cooking and meal prep, and running errands in Salida and Canon City.

Cassie knows a decent amount of Español and I would like to learn more. We went to Thailand and Cambodia for our honeymoon and aren't afraid to try any language.
There is a 5th wheel available on the property with electricity, water, and internet, plus a super comfy queen bed, kitchen, and dining/living area that is also connected to satellite if you are working remote. We also have multiple tent sites and one solid camper/camper van/RV/5th wheel sights site.
We also have a variety of tents available (1 person, 2 person, or 5 people) with air mattresses and bedding (sheets, pillows, mattress topper).
We have a small manufactured home with electricity, running water, and satellite internet. We currently live in this home with our two daughters. If you are camping your welcome to hang out at the picnic tables and connect to the wifi while enjoying the incredible view!
Showers are available both inside our home and an additional shower at the 5th wheel.

Turkey Rock recreational area is 5 miles down the road. This is a gold mine if you like the Colorado outdoors. Our elevation is just under 7k feet and the climate is a more alpine desert with Pinon pines, scrub oak, and rocky mnt juniper. The Sun in the Summer months can be a little intense so don't forget your straw hats and Sun protection!
On the other side of the river its big dense forests great for mushroom foraging and cooling off in an alpine lake. There's a hip mountain town located 15 miles away in Salida, CO with shops, restaurants, skate park, pizza and breweries, indoor and outdoor climbing walls, river walk, hot springs, parks, and of course river rafting, kayaking, and paddleboarding! There's a disc golf course in Poncha, I haven't had time to play there yet, I also have 1 basket at our property you can move around. This valley is considered the banana belt of CO and is also located in the second most concentrated area of 14ers in the world! We really are so lucky to live here and look forward to sharing it with you!

We have satellite internet that is a reasonable speed. We also have Starlink satellite internet, which is reliable and fast! Around 50-200 MBS.
I'm sure we can find a cool spot or two for a campervan site. If you have 4x4 there's a lot of options but for 2wd and low clearance campers we'll have 1 or 2 sites.
