**Update Nov 2023: We are not accepting guests at this time as we are working on a luxury yacht for the winter season. When we return, we will then re-open application dates.**

    Hello travelers!
We are Matt & Tmana and we live aboard our 50ft sailboat in the Caribbean, usually based in the US Virgin Islands.
We are new to Workaway and it's our hope to offer live-aboard sailing experiences in the pristine waters of the US Virgin Islands to interesting travelers in exchange for help around the boat.

We live aboard our 50ft classic sailboat, based in the Virgin Islands and are keen to host interesting, laid back, peaceful and open-minded travelers who are seeking to experience what the sailing live-aboard life in the Caribbean is all about, from sailing, to maintenance, free-diving and exploring the National Park above and below the water.

We are offering a private cabin with full bath and use of the water toys in exchange for basic help around the boat.
This may be cooking meals, social media work & photography (If you have a drone that'd be awesome), helping out with cleaning and basic maintenance, and of course helping sail the boat when we take it out.
This is essentially a co-habitation environment, and above all it is important to us that we and our guests mutually have a memorable, interesting, and rewarding experience together.

We sail the boat mostly around St. John which is over 70% unspoiled National Park.
There's hiking trails, gorgeous white sand beaches and protected coral reefs in the Park.

Life aboard a sailboat can be exceptional, but it should be noted that it comes with it's share of limitations and challenges too. We are largely off-grid with solar power for instance. Understanding that power and water are precious resources is key. There are 12volt power outlets (similar to in a car or RV) that one can use to charge phones, tablets, and computers with.

Think low-key glamping/van-life with amenities, on the sea.

Life in the islands, and particularly aboard a sailboat, moves at a different (read: slower) pace.
Expect that things won't be immediate, nor is every product you wish to have always available.
Cell service sometimes goes down for a few days.
As we say in the Caribbean: "We're on Island time", and we like it for just those reasons :)

Having a journal, a sketchpad, some books to read or a kindle, and a healthy passion for time spent in nature - above and below the water- will serve you well if you plan a visit with us.

Internet is only available through cell phone hotspot on the boat. Local cell network is decent enough to watch movies etc in this fashion...most of the time.

We want everyone to be comfortable and compatible so we feel a few disclaimers/disclosures up front is important:

    1. You must be 100% non-smoker.
This means tobacco and other substances, in any form i.e. even vapes.
Not trying to sound harsh but we don't like the smell of tobacco even on clothing/person, we really can't emphasize this enough. Sharing space on a 50ft sailboat means it will be obvious even if it occurred on land.
Violation of this will likely result in the end of your stay, so if you can't meet this requirement, please simply don't apply.

Additionally, we definitely don't want someone trying to cold-turkey while on the boat 'in paradise', so again, if you don't already meet this standard, please don't apply.

    2. We drink beer and wine and alcohol within reason.
We go out to local music and go dancing, and def have a good time, but excessive drinking on the regular (read: daily) isn't really our thing.

    3. We eat an omnivorous and healthy diet. Sometimes we kill lobsters, conch, crab or fish, and clean them on the boat.
So, if this is going to offend your sensibilities, this probably isn't the experience for you.

    4. We don't go to shore every day! Living aboard is a unique lifestyle. We live in a remote place surrounded by nature and that is primarily the focus of our day to day experience.

We can bring you in to shore where there's trails, a flat road to jog on, and of course the beach, but many days we don't sail anywhere, and some days we don't even plan to go to shore.

Most days we like to read, swim, snorkel, hike, get online a bit, spend time in nature, spearfish, and enjoy watersports, regattas, and check out local bands some evenings.
