Description
Hi ! I am Sandy, an English woman of 59 years old, I live with my husband Steve of 60 years old. He has very poor eyesight and I am deaf in one ear, this means you need to speak loudly and clearly to me please.
We live in a beautiful wooden cabin in front of the dam/lake of Riudecanyes, with a nice view of the Riudecanyes village. We can also see the sea which is about fifteen minutes away by car to Cambrils Town.
We have two mini long haired 'sausage' dogs (Dachshunds) Pedro and Wendy and Riude (Rudi) the rescue cat. We live our lives in peace, enjoying the beautiful views and tranquility.
We recently added a vegetable garden and do not use pesticides. We appreciate anyone who has experience and loves to help with this kind of thing.
We also now have a chicken coop, constructed with natural and reclaimed materials from our land. We bought six female feathered friends on 07/03/2024 🐔 Help with them will also be greatly appreciated.
We aren't vegetarian but Sandy does cook quite a few vegetarian dishes. If we eat meat, it is chicken, turkey or fish. We like organic food and we try to eat healthy.
It is a real bonus for us if you can cook sometimes to give Sandy a rest 😊
We aren't smokers, but you can smoke outside without a problem.
We are off grid and our electricity is solar and
we have propane gas to cook and shower.
It is very different to being connected to mainstream power sources, so we must be very mindful of this and careful with usage.
Also we have a washing machine for laundry.
We do not require you to be vaccinated.
We have wifi in all the house.

Sandy knows many English food recipes and some other cuisines. We both love to sample recipes from your country.
We can also teach some English language.
We are very interested in what happens around the world.
Aide
We need help with the maintenance of our land; Cut the grass, prune some trees, fix or rebuild stone walls, source and chop firewood, etc.
Help with the vegetable garden, planting, watering, nurturing etc.
Feeding and caring for the chickens.
We also need help inside the house; small maintenance jobs and cleaning. Keep your personal space clean and tidy. Leave the kitchen and shared bathroom as you found it... nice and clean. Toilet lid down 🙂
If you would like, you can cook with me, that would make me very happy and if you have some great recipes you would like to cook for us, that would be great as it is nice for me to have a rest from time to time.

We live in a beautiful wooden cabin with a comfortable mezzanine bedroom for you upstairs. There are three single beds, two bedside tables with lamps and a chest of drawers and hanging space for your clothes etc.
We also have a smaller wooden cabin with one single bed (180cm) a chest of drawers and a small desk with chair. It has an electrical point and a WiFi booster.
Sometimes if we host more volunteers, we use our family guestroom downstairs.

We usually eat twice per day but understand that you may want to eat breakfast (cereals & fruit), a cold sandwich lunch and a cooked evening meal. We do not cook food at lunch time. Note that we DO NOT provide snacks in between. When you go shopping with Sandy you can buy your own snacks then or Riudecanyes village shop is only a 3km walk.
We are flexible with the help, but we need at least 4 hours, this can sometimes be spread out throughout the day.
If there is an emergency and we require help, the time can be compensated another day. This might mean going out searching for one of the dogs if they decide to go walkabout.
You can take the weekend off if you would like to. The only thing we ask is that you can still water the plants 🙏🏻

Gonzalo was an absolute gem to host. Very proactive and self motivated. His skill set was second to non, it was amazing to see what he could do.

They are incredible people that I will hold in my heart for the rest of my life.

I miss Jonas a lot and even shed a tear when he left.
We got on so well and he instantly became one of the family. Nothing is too much trouble for him.

I spent 8 nights here & done some light gardening work. The nearest village is a 15 minute walk & its the perfect place to escape from a large crowded city. Finally gotten round to leaving feedback for this extremely helpfull and lovely young man.
Definitely hope to have him back some time in the future. His skill set is admirable and he bends over backwards to sort out any tasks that are given. He is capable of working unsupervised and is self motivated.

It’s a very nice and calm place to stay. The couple Sandy and Steve are extremely friendly and happy to spend time together with you.

Youssef is a very pleasant and amenable young man.
He worked hard on the land, clearing it cutting firewood with our other Workaway. They made a great team.
Whilst he was here, he cooked an amazing and extremely tasty Egyptian dish.
He even trusted me to cut his hair, I am a trained Barber, he seemed really pleased with the result.
