    Description

    Hello, I’m Vladimir. I previously lived and worked in London, but around 10 years ago I decided to leave the busy city life behind and move to rural Spain in search of a quieter, more peaceful lifestyle.

    I now live on a small olive farm near Valderrobres, surrounded by beautiful countryside, fresh air and nature. The farm is a personal hobby rather than a commercial business, and the olive oil we produce is only for our own personal consumption.

    It is a peaceful place, but there is plenty to explore nearby, with hiking routes, lakes and beautiful landscapes. Valderrobres is a charming local town with a friendly community and lots of traditional festivals and events throughout the year.

    I enjoy fishing, reading and working on my next projects — I’m always planning or building something new! I also love my three dogs very deeply. They are a big part of my life and will definitely be happy to meet our Workawayers. We also have ducks, chickens and sheep living on the farm.

    No two days are necessarily the same, especially during harvest season. We are looking for people who enjoy being outdoors, don’t mind getting their hands dirty and are happy to learn and help out.

    For us, Workaway is also about sharing experiences, meeting interesting people from different parts of the world and giving them the opportunity to experience the peaceful side of rural Spain.

    Staying with us is a chance to experience a very different way of life and learn about the culture, history and traditions of rural Spain.

    Workawayers can get involved in our local community and experience Spanish village life, including local festivals, traditions and events in and around Valderrobres. They can also explore the surrounding countryside, go hiking, visit nearby lakes and discover the history and architecture of the region.

    There is also an opportunity to learn about my personal history and background, including my experiences growing up with Russian and Ukrainian heritage and my life before moving to Spain. I enjoy sharing stories and having conversations about different cultures, history and life experiences.

    Living on an olive farm also gives Workawayers the opportunity to learn about traditional agriculture and olive oil production for self consumption, from caring for the land and animals to helping with the olive harvest.

    I hope our Workawayers leave not only having helped on the farm, but having experienced Spanish rural life, learned something about our history and culture, and shared their own culture and experiences with us too.

    * Feeding and caring for the animals
    * Cleaning animal pens
    * Watering and looking after plants
    * Helping with the olive harvest
    * Gardening and general farm maintenance
    * Cleaning and keeping things organised
    * Basic agricultural tasks
    * Helping with small projects around the farm

    Hébergement

    We can offer Workawayers two accommodation options, depending on availability and what suits them best.

    There is a comfortable caravan on the farm, suitable for up to two people. It is provided with clean bedding and towels, and there is a toilet and shower facilities located close to the caravan.

    Alternatively, we have a small home just across the river, approximately 5 minutes from the farm. This offers a little more privacy while still being very close to the farm and surrounded by nature.

    For food, the main meals and basic groceries will be provided by us. We have chickens on the farm, so there will always be fresh eggs available. We are happy to provide normal meals and ingredients, but Workawayers should budget for and purchase any extra snacks, alcohol, soft drinks or personal food items they would like themselves.

    We want our Workawayers to feel comfortable and at home while staying with us, and we are happy to discuss any dietary requirements or preferences before they arrive.

    There is plenty to do during your free time if you enjoy nature and exploring. The area around Valderrobres is beautiful, with hiking trails, rivers, lakes and countryside to discover. You can explore the historic old town of Valderrobres, visit the local castle and enjoy the cafés, restaurants and local shops. There are also regular local festivals and traditional events throughout the year.

    For those who enjoy being outdoors, the surrounding Matarraña area is a great place for walking, cycling, fishing, swimming and exploring small Spanish villages. The area is particularly suited to people who enjoy a peaceful, rural lifestyle rather than busy tourist destinations.

    The farm is in a rural location, so having access to a car is recommended if you would like to explore independently. Public buses do operate from Valderrobres, but services are limited, so they require some planning.

    House rules

    We want everyone to feel comfortable and enjoy their time here, but there are a few important rules:

    * No drugs on the property.
    * No drinking alcohol while working or caring for the animals.
    * Please treat the animals, property and surrounding environment with care and respect.
    * No unexpected guests — please speak with us in advance if you would like someone to visit.
    * If you plan to leave or finish your stay, please give us at least one week’s notice so that we have enough time to make other arrangements.
    * We ask everyone to keep their accommodation and shared areas clean and tidy.

    Most importantly, we are looking for people who are respectful, reliable, independent and happy to be part of farm life. We hope to create a relaxed and friendly environment where everyone can enjoy the experience.
