I spent several weeks in winter in Werner's log cabin. Having spent almost 40 years in the Yukon, Werner has a lot to tell. Be it about his time with the fire brigade, as a canoe guide, as a dog sled driver or as a boat captain on the Yukon River. Anyone interested in the rough life in the Yukon is in the right place with Werner. He was also kind

It's impressive how he masters his everyday life here far away from the crowds at the age of 80. Even though he lives very remotely, you actually have everything you need to live here: electricity (Werner fires up the generator in the event of a power cut), running water from the drinking water tank and even good Starlink internet. He always has a supply of food for several weeks. He actually designed and built the log cabin in which he lives. As he was also a plumber, he can build and repair many things himself. Even though I have no manual skills, I was able to help him a little by fuelling his wood gasifier boiler. If you like working with wood, you can let off steam here. Werner still has some work to do.
Thank you Werner for letting me experience the Yukon winter with you and for providing me with a variety of food.Vous pouvez seulement contacter les workawayers avec une adhésion active.

Werdner is a traditional sort of man, Swiss and with lots of stories, many from his time in the Swiss army. It was a reminder for me of my grandad who died when I was young and who I miss. A reminder of the European post World War Two generation; the trials, the strife and the wealth they provided. Testimony against our collective shame in the

He cares a-lot about knowledge and is not a ignorant type of man yet he is old enough not to be vain and to have some humility instead. Any knowledge you know will be appreciated by him. My heart has grown deeper in the presence of Werdner and I am glad to have met him. I would say this Work-away is slower paced and more industrial skills based. There is lots to be taken from the experience for a person who is inclined. For me it was a wise way to end my time in the Yukon. I’ll miss the old chap and he is in my prayers, may God Bless him.Vous pouvez seulement contacter les workawayers avec une adhésion active.

The feedback left by the previous volunteers is absolutely accurate - Werner is an amazing host! Not only he is kind and outgoing, but also he provides excellent accommodation (living in a spacious log-house), occasional road trips, and delicious coffee & food. The mountainous setting is breathtaking. The three cats will melt your heart.
My
… read more two-week stay (April 2022) with him was one of the best travel experiences of my life. Whatever there was to do (helping around the house or doing tasks in the yard) seemed more like much needed exercise (after delicious meals) than work. Thank you Werner for being a generous host, and for becoming a friend!Vous pouvez seulement contacter les workawayers avec une adhésion active.

Jo was an amazing experience. He send his profile, the first one in Work a away because he had just signed up, from NewZealand. I had to reed it twice to get the full scale of his talent and wrote back please come.
I picked him up at the airport at midnight a few days later he came in one stretch to the Yukon. Even as he was tired it too him about

His work at my kitchen counter was excellent because this is his trade.
We also had so much to talk about because he is a Ski instructor and a mountain guide in Austria, as I was in Switzerland many many moons ago.
He also picked the best stretch of excellent Yukon weather in a long time. So I had to show him around a little bit.
After long days of work, we had saunas the perfect place to talk some more.
Then his cousin Adrian came and I helped them to organize their 5-day canoe trip on the Yukon River from Whitehorse to Carmacks. With my canoe and equipment and they had a great experience.
I think I made a new friend for life and some of his friends in Austria and his family became already friends with me on FB too.
Thank you, Jo, for your excellent work.

If you are looking for a stunning vacation in an absolutely amazing loghouse surounded by forest und pure nature of the yukon with an relaxed but still motivated guy and his two funny cats, you are definitely right here.

What kind of work? I did for example some firewood cutting, made a new kitchen countertop, helped with a few other little things.
He is open for new ideas, creative and has lots of knowhow.
It was definitely a win win situation.
Thanks Werner for having me over 1 month, sharing your experience and your home, introducing me to all the good people around you and the delicious food you offered and cooked.
Thanks for making this stay to an awesome experience, your friendship and sry for eating so much

I stayed just one week at Werner`s awesome place. I helped him to organize his laptop, did some garden work and we cleaned the widows in the beautiful loge house. The maximum hours have been 4 hours of work, Werner is super relaxed and fair with that. I could sleep in a huge bed in a big room with a little additional kitchen in the basement. I

For cooking we could use the big kitchen, during the day I prepared my own food and for dinner we cooked and ate together. I also baked a few times fresh bred for all of us. We also have been allowed to use the Wifi as much as we want. The Area where Werner lives is beautiful, it´s surrounded by mountains and there are some nice trails to explore the nature around.
Werner is a really interesting and friendly person, we had super good conversations and it´s just amazing how active he works against the fracking in the Yukon. It´s so nice to see a person in his age still so motivated and active. He also built the beautiful loge house on his own and it´s his dream to finish it. I´m sure he is happy and thankful to get some things in and around his house done.
This place is highly recommended and it was my best volunteering so far.
Thank you for the awesome time with you Werner :)
