Observant traveler, you're about to come across a guidepost pointing to a well hidden lot of peaceful land.
May I invite you to come to see my beautiful trees of various fruits like oranges, mandarines, almonds, apples, pears, olives, plums, kaki, peach, medlar and figs and the three of my friendly dogs and - see! And listen! Do you see the manifold birds flying their way through the fragrant and healthy air and do you hear their tweeting orchester playing "Enjoy your life, Op. 1" resonate from the foilage all around the house? See your host, a 34 year old, bearded apprentiece trying to learn the Art of Living and his helping parents and be warmly greeted by us bipeds, and a bit curiously nosed at by them quadrupeds:-)
Don't hesistate, dear traveler, enter the shady cool interior if you come in summer, or step inside our warm and cozy hall in winter, please, feel yourself at home, allow me to hang your dusty coat. You must be thirsty after your long journey, right? Would you like to wrap up your mind in the soft fabric of Portuguese wine, or would you like to feel the tasteful sweetness of home made lemon or pomegranate (or or or) sirup on your tounge? Or are you of a real spartian kind and enjoy a glass of freshly tapped water from our well or borehole? And we shall eat together what the fertile soil yields under the hot sun of Portugal, we shall enjoy freshly harvested vegetables like tomatoes, cucumbres, carrots, cabbage, zucchetti, calebasse, potatoes, leek, oignons, garlic, ginger, horseradish and much more what one might desire. Or you prefer raw fruits? May I serve you some berries, grapes or pluck some crops from the various threes? Or would you prefer to stay for some more years and taste home grown maracujas, kiwis, lemons, grapefruits, avocados (if the Master of the Universe agrees:)) and just everything what the land will offer? You eat vegetarian, vegan or do you apreciate the gifts of the animal body?
Dear traveler, you seem exhausted after your long journey, so allow me to show me your own chamber where you can stay with your friend or alone. Or would you prefer to stay in your own shelter? Then, follow me and I'll guide you around the land, pointing out to you the havens under old cork trees, gently rustling, strong and protetive. ... enjoy your sleep, count the brilliantly shining stars on the far arch of the Portuguese lovely nightsky and listen to the near villages dogs barks which can occure sometimes :-).
Good morning, dear traveller! Did you pass a restful night?
If it is summer, you are wakened up at 05:00 - 07:00 early in the morning by the vibrant rays of the resplendent sun, if it is winter you might observe how a mysterious mist has set its humid charm on the land hiding all its treasures, covering everything with tiny droplets of water. Let's go out to see the terrain, shall we? Let me show you what works we are currently occupied with, where something needs to be fixed, what plant is longing for water or fertilizer ("manure"), where some vegetable or animal intruders need to be expelled as they notoriously do not respect the rules (which occures very often, unfortunately), where a tree needs relief of its rich load, where a wall needs to be built or a new bed needs to be plowed, maybe we need to repair a fence, and when it's the season we must execute extra work loads to collect, clean, store and even convect/preserce the harvest. Oh traveler, sometimes you will be longing to rest your body on the soft bed, to jump into a cold mountain lake and wanting to curse, to cry, to scream but see, don't resign, there IS an end to any inconvenience. Stay focusd, stay calm, breath, feel your heartbeat, remember that you have two hands not more, not less. Don't demand too much, don't slacken the reins. If you're exhausted, make a pause have a seat, have a drink. Flex your back, shake your arms, caress your hands admire the view with your eyes that deploys around you, listen to the tender wind and greet the dogs, they are just so happy to know you.
Oh, it's noon already! Let's go into the kitchen and see what delicious plates are awaiting us or maybe you yourself prepared a dish for everyone - grateful all will be. Bom Apetide, viajador.
The afternoon is lazy in the summer but productive in the winter, night's coming fast here in Portugal! In the Summer, between 12.00 and 17.00 we would lounge around, enjoying some time for ourselves... Do you have a good book that interests you? Or do you have an fulfilling hobby which you would like to practise? As in the winter, night falls at about 18:00, we would use the time before for continuing our work. But there is still plenty of time for contemplation in the long winters eveings. After the days six hours of productive activity is expired, dinner is sometime served, sometimes you help yourself... Go to the fridge, or take a fruit out of a bowl in the kitchen, make yourself a tasty müesli or a healthy salad or roast a wild boar like Obelix. And maybe you want to extend your legs on the divan, listen to music, watch a movie or just do nothing...
At some point... Let's enjoy philosophy, let's develop together what we could do to be truthfully happy, sound and prosperus in order to contribute to peace and happyness for all living beings on this miracle which is called Earth in this quite dark times. Let's get deep into the very human being, let's explore what is our duty on Earth, let's ask the Gods for their council, let's bid the great sages to enlighten our way of collaboration and, if Fortuna pours upon us her clemency, of friendship.
Dear traveler, may I invite you to choose the junction towards my modest "quinta"?
