  Description

  We are a family running a travel community in Greece. We live on the northern coast of the Peloponnese, in Greece (Corinthia region). Our house is located in an authentic village close to the sea (2.5 km-1.6 mi away) in a neighbourhood with locals' country houses. A spot with many pine trees next to the beach is 3.5 km-2.2 mi away.
  
  I ask for help with German language development.
  
  About me: I organize and/or am a tour leader for trips in Greece (my company is a’ travel community). I am also a co-owner of a Conservatoire in Athens.
  
  About my son: he is an 8 y.o. boy, stays with me or his mother in terms of co-parenting, sharing his time between my and his mothers’ home throughout the year, which means that -depending on the dates, month etc that you may join us- you may meet him for full, some or none of the days of your stay. He speaks English, has cultivated his unique personality, and is brought up with much love and experiences. He has also spent lots of quality time with several Aupairs+Workawayers from Europe, USA, Canada, Australia etc since he was 6 months old
  
  We also have a cat (Lou) & a dog (Lelos). We consider them rather 'friends' than pets. We take care of them (food, water, health issues), though they are not allowed to enter the house and the warehouse. Their things are on the balcony and the courtyard and they are free to exit the fence whenever they feel like (e.g. Lelos has officially 4 houses+names to go for food, caresses etc 😀)
  
  We strive to follow an eco-friendly and zero-waste concept and we'll ask you to help us with this important issue, as you will also be a role model. Your approach will be also mostly welcome. We like equity, share housework tasks, and try to teach the kids (mostly my 8 y.o. son) to do the same, as in every aspect and level, they can do so. Although we are omnivores, we cook meat very rarely at home and try to consume minimal dairy products (e.g. when possible, we love to make handmade pizza!).
  
  Although we have a car, we mostly use bicycles and public transport (e.g. suburban) for our transportation, so it is quite important that you can bike 5-10 km when needed (Greece has almost no bike lanes).
  
  What we are looking for: we are looking for someone to help us, but -more importantly- to also have a real connection and share unique moments, for a minimum of 2 weeks (although we usually prefer one month or more).
  
  When: we are open to discussing you joining us during any of our candidate next weeks, months, for this or even next year. You can find my current ‘availability’ on my profile (). We mostly care about crafting nice memories rather than being in a rush to find someone just for ‘help’.
  
  Where: most of the times to our home, which I consider a dreamy one. Depending on the dates, month etc though, it may be in a friend's country house in the mountains or on a mountain hut or just with tents for free camping, to explore and enjoy nature and hidden gems, as well as to avoid the heatwaves. If any of these scenarios do not make you happy, please let me know in advance.
  
  We have already hosted many unique persons from several countries with a common profile for the two parents. Since 2020 we (the parents) got divorced and continue our lives in separate houses, so we have two separate profiles also. This one is the father's (Nikos') and my son lives with me or his mother (e.g. one week at each home), in terms of 50% co-parenting.
  
  We are very happy when we host friends and workawayers from around the world. We enjoy the community of people on the same page, meaning people trying to find sustainable, ethical, non-discrimination & all diets welcome approaches. We also love spending time showing them the beauties of our area (especially things related to nature and culture), eating and travelling together when possible.
  
  As it's important to have some stability in our routine/daily life, we expect that you'll be ready to embrace a new culture and way of living, even though your creative and effective ideas will always be welcome.
  
  We are happy to bring you in contact with many previous workawayers (unique personalities from Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Serbia, Switzerland, the UK, the USA), to discuss with them anything you'd like.

  We are located in a small village close to the sea. Although the area receives quite a lot of tourists in the summer, it is mostly Athenians on a break from the big city who stay at their country houses or visiting friends. This means that the area has retained most of its authenticity and charm. The village itself keeps calmness even in high season. If you are looking for a place where you can see how real Greeks live, this is a very good opportunity for you!
  
  As individuals, we are very interested in
  -music (I was a guitar and byzantine music teacher for 29 years and I co-run a conservatoire in Athens)
  -cinema nights (projector, quality projector screen, good speakers, dark room etc) with any movie that has 'something to say', whether this is Avengers, Tarkofski or Taviani brothers
  -gastronomy
  -outdoor activities and connecting with nature all year round (free camping etc)
  -DIY projects, with much love for carpentry
  -ethical living
  -deep conversations (e.g. Philosophy, Theology, Psychology, Self Development)
  
  Living with us will give you the the opportunity to have unique experiences, roaming the mountains and the sea around us. Some examples (depending on the month and my availability) could be to
  -witness traditional customs and festivals (e.g. during Easter)
  -taste great quality food, wines (we live close to Nemea, the biggest wine region of Greece) and products
  -explore hidden gems of Greece during some field trips of mine
  -participate in unique tours and activities like visiting ancient sites, mushroom hunting and tasting, cycling trips, go for wild camping etc
  -live in a mountainous are of Greece, where I usually love to go during July and/or August, with or without my son, as a chance to find unique landscapes, waterfalls, rivers, rock pools etc, away from crowds and the Mediterranean heatwaves.
  
  From my side, during November to March I have a less demanding schedule, so I am more available for quality time and day or multi-day trips etc!

  Aide

  We ask help for (German is top priority, the rest are optional)
  1. language development:
  i. I'm at A1 in German and I really want to practise seriously (e.g. 1 to 5 hours per day)
  ii. Orpheus speaks English fluently and some German as well, so playfully practicing with him would be much appreciated
  
  2. help with the house (cooking, cleaning etc)
  
  3. having quality time with our 8 y.o. son: creative play, improvising various games depending on his or your unique fantasy, helping him become more and more autonomous and suggesting ideas on how to solve every day's issues etc.
  
  4. help with gardening. We would appreciate any knowledge of permaculture etc.
  
  5. other skills that would be appreciated are graphic design, content creation, photography & photo editing. You can also feel free to contact us if you are into Art Projects, Language practice, help with Eco Projects, Teaching, DIY and projects, Creating/Cooking family meals, Help around the house, General diy, Help with Computers/Internet or anything else that you consider genuine, ethical and unique. The help we ask for has to do with our private home and not for our business.
  
  •Around the house, we will need help with keeping things tidy and clean. Regarding tidying, we try to keep the 1. everything has a 'home' & 2. 'first finish/pick up our things, then anything else' concept.
  
  •Regarding cleaning, it involves sweeping, mopping, laundry, cleaning and everything else that we ordinary humans do. We try to keep a balance between 'too much cleanliness' and 'griminess' so that we can live in a clean house, while we save time for more interesting things (such as day trips!).
  -We try to share all the above tasks in equity terms, sometimes, though, you (or you with Orpheus) will be asked to clean alone, so that I (Nikos) can catch up with some deadlines and we'll then have quality free time to enjoy all together.
  •Although it's not mandatory (I cook almost every day), we would be grateful for someone who cooks well and can help us out with family meals, the way that you already use to cook, especially if you lean towards a healthy and ethical approach. If you don't cook at all, I will show you how to prepare something fast and easy (e.g. just boiled rice), so that you can cook something for all of us, when a day is quite demanding for me.

  It is really important to me to practise my high A1 level German with native speakers or with anyone who is willing to support me in my practise, even if you are a beginner (I prefer it than using Tandem or Duo Lingo 😊) . I can also teach Greek, as i. I was a greek teacher for foreigners for 2 years, ii. I have studied Greek in depth in various periods of history and iii. I really love the wisdom and 'laziness' of Greek.😊

  Hébergement

  You will be lodged in our dreamy (spacious, sea+mountain view, big balconies, garden etc) home. The house has
  •three bedrooms
  •living room with home cinema and quality speakers (to enjoy music and movies)
  •spacious kitchen
  •bathroom
  •balcony
  and a spacious courtyard.
  
  -Workawayers' bedroom is 100% private, unless you would like to share your room for any reason (e.g. to play with Orpheus in your room).
  -Every other part of the house is shared, but you are welcome to ask for some private time even in these other parts (when possible)
  -The house has a breathtaking balcony with an amazing view of the Corinthian Gulf, where we use to eat, chill out, do yoga etc many months of the year.
  
  -We usually eat together. Though, we are flexible to each one needs and special occasions. We share what is needed to do, dividing up into teams, such as i. the cooking team, ii. setting-the-table team and iii. cleaning team, as with any other house chores.

  The house is located 2.5 km from the sea. You can take the suburban train from Athens airport and come directly to our place in less than two hours.
  
  In your free time, you can enjoy using some of our equipment, such as
  • practicing yoga, pilates, TRX, gymnastics rings etc (one shared yoga mat, cork yoga bricks, hip resistance bands etc provided)
  •table tennis (we love ping pong mini-sessions)
  •swimming in the Corinthian Gulf (we swim all year long)
  •strolling/hiking/jogging or biking around the rural landscapes or by the sea (there is a nearby -3.3. km away- soccer field, where we go jogging sometimes as well)
  •windsurfing in a seaside hotel that offers windsurf lessons (9.7 km away)
  •many more ideas, depending on your personality
  
  All of the above are things that we also like doing (except surfing!), so we can enjoy them together if you want.
  Please note: there can be smaller or longer periods where I will not have any free time to hang around, so it's better to be in a status where you can spend time with yourself only.
  
  We provide a good bicycle, as long as you are basically experienced and take good care of it (we love our bikes!). We offer tennis rackets and generally speaking a healthy and authentic location! We are located about 1.5 hours from Athens, so you can spend some time getting to know that great city too! The village has a mini-market, as well as a traditional ‘kafeneio’ (coffee shop and restaurant together), where you can have Greek coffee or homemade food. The closest town, Kiato, is 2 km away and you can reach it on foot or by bicycle. There you will find many shops, tavernas, beach bars etc.
  
  From Athens airport, you can take the suburban train and come to a station (about 2 hours ride) which is very close to our home (1.8 km) and -of course- we'll pick you up 👣

  You will be able to work either from your private room (spacious desk provided) or from another small room with a table or our beautiful big balcony with a spectacular view of the Corinthian Gulf! It is really important to have your own data, as our home does not have a landline with a router, etc. Even though I'll be able to share a hotspot with you from my phone, sometimes it just doesn't work (even for me) and sometimes I'll be away from home, so the hotspot will not be available for you.
