Description
Hello, My name is Katherine, and I live on a family-owned piece of land. Mostly it's just me and my partner here, but in summer and some other UK school holidays my sisters, brother and their children often stay. It's a beautiful area surrounded by mountains and just 10 minutes from the sea. It's about two and a quarter hours from Athens, 30 mins from Patra, and just an hour up into the mountains at Kalavrita.
The farm is about 11 hectares and is neglected. The land used to be a lemon farm, but a heavy frost killed the grafted lemons many years ago – now they're mostly Seville oranges. There are also some olive trees (about 500, but overgrown and neglected), pomegranates, plums, mulberries and walnuts. Many trees need pruning. -

If you're not from Greece, I'd love to introduce you to local culture – the festivals, the food, the mountain villages, and everyday life in a regular Greek town. There's a great hiking group here that goes on day hikes on Sunday in the mountains nearby. It's really friendly and always ends with a big meal in a taverna. You'll be welcome to join any family events, birthdays, namedays etc.
I've started learning to weave in two different styles – in that of the village of Geraki in Lakonia, and simple weaving on a rigid heddle loom – and would happily share what I know. I'm interested in learning new craft skills too, and and in meeting people from other countries, especially those that I'd like to visit next! -
Aide
Initially I'm looking for help clearing rubbish that has ended up in here, ideally asap, before the autumn rain comes and it gets covered over with vegetation again. After that, I'd really like help with tree pruning and digging out brambles. I'll work alongside you as much as I can, a couple of hours a day, but also need to continue with my main job as a copywriter and copyeditor.

I'd love to brush up my Indonesian and German, and would happily help anyone with English, or provide copyediting support for anyone with writing projects. -
Hébergement
The main house is very simple, just three rooms with concrete floors. Each room opens onto the terrace in front of the house, but there aren't interconnecting doors between each. There's a bathroom about 20 m away in a separate building, and an additional outdoor shower for hot weather. Your room has AC, which can also be used as a heater, fans, and two comfortable single beds. There are also shelves with tools in your room (sorry!), but they're not tools that are in daily use, so you wouldn't be disturbed.
I eat a lot of pulses, and although I'm not vegetarian I'm happy to cook that way if that's what you prefer. It would be great if we can share the cooking, so please let me know what you like to make. I eat summer vegetables from our own garden, but as I will be away for two months in the winter I'm not planting lots of vegetables for the cooler months. The Saturday fruit and veg market is great, and there are two organic shops in town. -
Autres infos...
Aigio has train and bus connections to Athens, Patra and Corinth (Isthmus), and there's a car hire place in town too. We have bikes here for short distances – they're a bit old though so you wouldn't want to go too far on them.
The main house rules are no drugs, no drunkenness, and we clear up the kitchen after each meal. I have quiet evenings generally, a couple of hours work after the beach (depending on the season), and always sleep for an hour or two in the afternoon. There's no wifi unfortunately ... -

I don't have wifi, but also work from home and there's a second desk in the kitchen you can use. There are plenty of cafes in town, about 15 mins' walk, with good wifi.

There's a big driveway to park up in, bathroom (not in the main house) and also an outside shower.
