Description
Hi, I’m Roshan, a former media professional who traded city life for the quiet hills of Kumaon. I now live here with my dog, Kiero, surrounded by pine and oak forests and views of distant snow peaks. I’m creating a small hillside estate that celebrates slow living, creativity and self-sufficiency.
What I’m working on I’m developing a self-sustaining hill retreat comprising country cottages that brings together creativity, simple living and respect for nature. There’s always something to do here from planting seasonal vegetables and flowering plants to maintaining walking paths, building with wood and stone, or creating cozy corners for reading and reflection.
There are also a few experiments underway: free-range chicken rearing, composting with natural waste and setting up spaces for visitors to slow down and reconnect with the outdoors.
Workawayers who love nature, mountain life and meaningful hands-on work will enjoy their time here. You’ll experience quiet days, village life, fresh mountain air and home-cooked food.

We are set in the Kumaon region of Uttarakhand a part of the Indian Himalayas known for its warm people, ancient temples, folk music and slow village life. Workawayers will get to experience local customs and the deep connection people here have with their land and forests.
You can join local hikes to nearby villages and temples, visit Almora town’s old bazaar and meet people and farmers in the area. Evening bonfire often blend conversations and stories of mountain life, sustainability and travel from around the world.
It’s a quiet, grounding experience which helps you see how simple living and community still thrive in these hills.
Aide
I’m looking for Workawayers who can lend a hand in creating and maintaining the space as it slowly grows. The work includes:
Gardening & Landscaping: planting flowers, maintaining kitchen gardens, tending to flower beds and helping shape an English-garden-style landscape.
Creative Projects: creating kick knacks, DIY projects or helping with small décor ideas around the cottages.
Woodwork & Repairs: light carpentry, crafting log benches or shelves and working with reclaimed wood etc.
Cooking & Baking: experimenting with simple, wholesome recipes using local produce.
Photography or Videography: capturing life around the estate for Digital storytelling.
Outdoor Exploration: helping mark and map short treks, trails, river points and picnic spots in and around the estate.
You don’t need to be an expert, just someone who enjoys hands-on work, creativity and life close to nature.

Hébergement
Individual cottages, each cottage has double occupancy, basic furniture and large windows that open to hills and mountain views. There’s access to a shared kitchen, hot water and clean bathrooms with power backup. Meals are shared, simple home-cooked food made with locally available ingredients. Sunsets are awesome, evenings are peaceful, often spent around the bonfire with Kiero, my Himalayan mastiff, and my local helps.

On your time off, you can explore the many walking trails around Dhaura short hikes to nearby villages, ancient temples and forest clearings with views of the Nanda Devi range. A river flows about 20 minutes away, perfect for a quiet picnic or dip in summer. Almora town is just across the valley, 16 km by road , with local markets and old heritage spots to wander through.
Public transport is limited, but shared jeeps and local taxis connect Dhaura with nearby towns like Kasar Devi, Binsar and Jageshwar. If you’re comfortable with local buses or hitching short rides, exploring the area is easy and rewarding. I have my own car and would love to have company to explore these areas as well.
Life here is simple, peaceful and close to nature. We live sustainably, conserving water and power, avoiding plastic and respecting local customs. House rules are few: keep the space clean, be kind to animals and treat the land gently. Quiet evenings, good food and honest work are part of the rhythm here and something I hope you’ll enjoy too.

Mobile connectivity here is strong, with good 5G/4G coverage. Wi-Fi installation is in progress. The environment is peaceful and ideal for remote work, writing or creative projects between your helping hours. Power backup is available.

We are pet-friendly, and well-behaved dogs are welcome here. I live with Kiero, my gentle Himalayan mastiff, who’s friendly once he’s introduced properly. The estate has open grounds and trails where pets can roam under supervision, but because we’re surrounded by forest and wildlife, pets should stay close and not wander unattended. Cats or smaller pets are also fine if they’re comfortable around dogs and the outdoor environment. Just bring along any special food or bedding they might need as the nearest pet supply store is in Almora town.
