Description
We are Tyler, Zenovia, and Metro. We live in one of the many beautiful places of the world. We love to: eat well, ride bikes along our coastal highway, play, walk in the woods, work hard in the gardens, eat delicious, fresh foods, have bonfires, listen to music, make art in the forge, make fresh juices and superfood smoothies, play bike polo, drink good beer, ferment many ferments, and sleep until the sun rises on the bay.
We live in rural, South Shore Nova Scotia on the Aspotogan peninsula, overlooking the beautiful St Margarets Bay. Our home is across the road from the ocean and is close to ocean beaches, lakes for swimming, cycling routes and hiking trails. The nearest town is 10 km away and the capital city, Halifax, is a 45 minute drive. We live on 1.5 acres with extensive gardens, chickens, and we are currently designing and building more accommodations on the property.
Work that you can expect to do here includes heavy landscaping, gardening, building maintenance, carpentry, food preservation and harvest. We often have people help with trail building and wild foraging. We are very welcome to those who like to cook and we can accommodate any dietary needs. We often eat together for supper but you are occasionally expected to be able to put meals together from basic ingredients.
We are not looking for help with business, and seek people interested in living, for a time, how we live in our private home.

Most volunteers leave us with a better knowledge of nutrition and all things to do with food preparation, permaculture, and gardening. Many stay in touch and a couple have even made business relationships with our neighbours as international tour guides.

Knowledge of permaculture and organic gardening would be an asset. There is a lot of construction and landscaping this year, any experience would be great. Mostly an eagerness to get dirty and be productive; relax and end enjoy a rural setting. Bikes available for riding, kayaks, and maybe a canoe.

We stayed with Tyler, Zenovia and Metro for just under 10 days and loved our time there. Their home is very warm and welcoming with a great view of the ocean.
We helped out weeding and mulching in the garden, helped Tyler package for the market and helped with the housework.

I really enjoyed my week with Tyler, Zenovia and Metro. They were great hosts!
It didn't feel like working, it was more like helping. I helped Tyler to get things ready for market (baking cookies, bag nuts and fruits), cleaned house and did some weeding at the garden. Food was really good and I learned a lot about healthy food.

We spend almost two weeks there and had a wonderful time! The work is varied (garden, kitchen, house maintenance) and entertaining, I specially enjoyed helping Tyler in the kitchen when market day was approaching! Joan and Reyes were a fantastic addition to our family for the two weeks they stayed with us. They are very respectful, fun loving people. When they arrived they gave us wonderful gifts and we got to have many nice meals together. Make sure to accept their offer to make dinner, they are great cooks! They will be missed.

I had luck with this great family in a beautiful place with super friendly neighbors and friends! The time by Tyler, Zenovia and Metro was awesome and I learned many things about healthy food and gardening.

We loved Viktoria! She worked so hard, above and beyond what she was asked to do. There were days when the bugs were really hard on her, but she insisted on persevering. We loved having Robin stay with us. I think that Metro really bonded to him because he would often remember Robin and ask about him. Robin was very easy to get along with and we had many good discussions, and got lots of needed work done. Thank you Robin!

Julia was awesome! She is very good at everything and fun to hang out with. Getting work done was never a problem, getting her to stop working was more difficult. We had a lot of fun, we miss her.
