These guys are great workers and easy to get along with.
I think the remoteness of our bay may have been pushing them a little, especially when we had an unexpected wild pig to deal with 😉 but they coped and we enjoyed having them around.

Sam is a fantastic woofer! I highly recommend him to everyone. He's really easy going, easy to feed and is one of those delightful workers who sees a job and just gets on with it. He was happy to team work or independently. While here he helped with some new garden beds, driving our dodgy farm vehicle to move tons of dirt and rocks as part of a

Sam is also great company and fitted in well with the flow of visitors we had in the bay.

My partner and I stayed with Natalie, Gavin and Polly (resident woofer 🐶) for 2 weeks. During this time we were treated to loads of fishing, boating, exploration around the sound, deep dives into local history and many, many stories. Natalie consistently provided filling, home cooked meals with wholesome ingredients for all of our meals. Hope you

Our work was varied, consisting of food prep, ditch diggin', demoing an old ceiling, splitting/hauling firewood, home maintenance and a couple days of fencing. Our little cabin room was lovely, food was fantastic, the people knowledgable and overall the experience was very accommodating.Vous pouvez seulement contacter les workawayers avec une adhésion active.

I had amazing 10 days with Natalie and Gavin in the beautiful Pelorus Sound. I really fell in love with this remote place. I also liked the work, which was never too much. It usually included some work around the house, weeding and firewood. In my free time I enjoyed using the SUP, going for walks and Natalie teached me how to use the Dinghy and
… read more the kayak. Beside that I also learned a lot of other things: fishing, shooting, cleaning mussels, fillet fish, etc. And the best part: the amazing food, which Natalie prepared - It was soo delicious. Time was running way too fast. I really hope that I can come back one day!Laissé par l'hôte pour le workawayer (Michaela)
Michaela was wonderful to host. She is easy going and willing to try her hand at any task. She also does a thorough help and cleans up after herself, returning tools to the right place. She is a pleasure to feed and not at all fussy .
I really enjoyed her company and would not hesitate to host her again. I highly recommend her 😍

Dan was great to have around and was happy to work with Leo aged 11 who was staying with me.
He's level expert at clearing water ways and ditch digging 😊.
Dan is easy to feed and happy to try his hand at any task given to him.
I highly recommend him to any future hosts

I spent 8 days on the remote island-edge that constitutes Natalie and Gavin's rural home. As someone who loves camping and the outdoors - their ad was a no-brainer. However, living there is different to passing through on a tent! There are a lot of obstacles to overcome with their lifestyle and some must be unique to Wakatahuri. I was
… read more well-instructed and given what I felt was an appropriate degree of responsibility. We worked together, separately, and also with young Leo (master fisher). There was plenty of downtime to fit in a snack, a walk, or even afternoon fishing from the pier which I was terrible at but enjoyed nonetheless. The work itself was varied and Natalie would probably laugh if I called it hardy, but some of it was definitely not the outdoorsy work that I'd done before. Even sucking mud out of a pipe brought a degree of fun novelty. I don't think this place would suit more relaxed or thin-skinned travellers as the work itself is part of the fun, and Natalie's varied homely cooking as a reward afterwards always emphasised that. If you consider this place, I'd strongly recommend asking for a couple of weeks or more. I only began to figure out my role and the tasks that I could do effectively near the end of my time there, so it would have been great to more optimally utilise my accrued experience. Oh, and bring a good book - not Dune Messiah, it was the wrong choice. Best regards, DanVous pouvez seulement contacter les workawayers avec une adhésion active.

Jetta was great fun to host, I loved her company!
She was happy to do whatever I asked and clarified tasks when needed.
I highly recommend her and would be very happy to have her come for a second visit 😄.

What a week! I learned so much in such a short time. Natalie explained, showed and taught me so much with a lot of patience and humor :)
Add to that all the great activities in and outside the bay, all animals with their own personalities and the incredibly delicious food, made everything even better.
I had the best first hosts you could wish for

Stan is great company and easy to get along with.
He's a skilled builder.
Stan is a VERY keen fisherman and spent most of his free time out fishing. He makes delicious fish soup.
I recommend future hosts are very clear from the start about the hours of help expected.
We unfortunately had a few misunderstandings with regards to the rules with

Natalie and Gavin (and Davey) are lovely people. Natalie gives tips for what to check out on the way to the pick up point, cooks wonderful meals, is very knowledgeable and can teach you skills like spinning wool and shooting an air rifle. In my time here I helped Gavin paint the boat, did some weeding, repotting, helped shearing the sheep, moved

I also went fishing and collected some mussels for dinner, shot a possum, went kayaking, and went for nice walks and swims.Vous pouvez seulement contacter les workawayers avec une adhésion active.

What a privilege to get to live off the grid in Wakatahuri with Natalie and Gavin for a few weeks. Going hunting and fishing and eating it for dinner the same day...boating, kayaking, hiking...the beauty of the place is astounding. Natalie goes above and beyond with providing food and snacks and teaching WorkAwayer's new skills. I will miss you

I spent a great week with Natalie, Gavin, Heather , Polly the dog, and the little Leo !!

This place is a little paradise for anyone who would enjoy the feeling of living in a different time ! I felt very welcomed there and had very nice talks with both Natalie and Gavin. I hope i'll see you again ! Take care !

Better late than never... In July we stayed at Nathalie and Gavins place and it was a very interesting experience! We think their place is very unique and special and so are Nathalie and Gavin. If you want to stay here you have be able to handle the fact of being isolated from civilization, which we found fantastic!
We saw dolphins, learned how
… read more to fish, how to fillet, how to shoot a gun and we got to go on a nightly pig hunt (didn't see anything but still it was very exciting and a very beautiful nightly walk all together). We saw, did and learned so much in only 10 days!
Nathalie is a great cook and will make sure that you will not go hungry or thirsty. If you like to work on machines and mechanics (like Mathias) Gavins ship shed truly is a paradise!
Just one last thing, for people who don't have English as a native language... brace yourself ! Especially Nathalie talks very fast and they both have a strong accent. We speak English pretty well but had to adapt and listen very carefully and sometimes had to ask twice. Just keep that in mind if you want to go there because if you go hunting or fishing it's very importent that you really get what is said and explained.
We had a great experience and wish them all the best!
cheers!

We stayed with Natalie for 10 days and had the most special time we could ever have. First of all being off grid and especially at that gorgeous piece of land in the sounds felt soul-soothing and adventuresome. Work outside in the garden, around the creek and building the base for a sheep-shed depended often on the weather. We too had lots of time

I suppose it is not always a given to take in a family of four with two little boys but Natalie kept our boys busy with baking, doing arts and crafts, reading to them and giving them the responsibility of feeding the chicken. The boys just love and miss her, the place and all the animals and so do we! We couldn't be more greatful to both, Gavin and Natalie, for this beautiful opportunity. We really hope to see them again some day or at least our boys might, when they have their own workaway-experience.Vous pouvez seulement contacter les workawayers avec une adhésion active.

We had the most amazing experience staying with Gavin & Natalie in the beautiful Wakatahuri Bay! We were very lucky with beautiful weather for our whole stay - which meant lots of walks (with AMAZING views) rowing, fishing, kayaking, swimming, diving & BBQs after work! The bay itself is beautiful, the water is super clear and you can spot tonnes of sealife from the wharf or from the boats - we also loved hanging out with the dogs, sheep, Lily the goat & the chickens! Thank you Gavin & Natalie for the amazing stay, we would highly recommend a memorable stay at Waka!Vous pouvez seulement contacter les workawayers avec une adhésion active.

Lucy and Joe stayed with us for 3 weeks. They are both amazing enthusiastic workers, willing to try anything, quick to pick things up and quite observant. We would love to see them again.
