Description
We’re Angelica & Sebastian and together we're building an eco–mountain retreat hidden in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, and we’re doing it slowly, intentionally, and in deep connection with this land.
We live surrounded by dense jungle, abundant wildlife, and views that stretch from the high glacial peaks all the way to the Caribbean Sea. You will see valleys full of clouds, hear howler monkeys at dawn, and watch wild parrots soar through the sky. It’s a place for those who appreciate simplicity, quiet, and the wisdom of nature. It’s a place where silence speaks, time slows, and nature is the real teacher.
We are passionate about bio-construction, regenerative agriculture and creating a space that honors the culture of the so-called heart of the world. We work closely with the local community and everyone who joins us becomes part of this extended family.
If you love remote places, biodiversity, meaningful work, and being part of something from the very beginning, you’ll feel at home here.

Echange culturel et opportunités d'apprendre
Over the past two years, we’ve been creating this project from the ground up, and we’re happy to share what we’ve learned about the land, the region, and the Indigenous communities of the Sierra Nevada.
We are Angelica and Sebastian. Angelica is an artist with her own atelier on the land. If you are curious about art or creativity can get insights into her process and the artistic side of life here. Sebastian has been running a design agency for 10 years and loves building things as well as trailrunning. We both enjoy taking care of the land together and are also developing a regenerative agriculture project, following the principles of synthropic farming, which offers another meaningful area to explore. Fresh fruit and vegetables will be a daily part of your diet here.
Daily life here also includes simple, shared moments: maybe a trip to the beach together, cooking dinner in the evening, going for a run, or just enjoying an open, easy-going atmosphere on the terrace. We value a warm, respectful, and curious way of connecting.
We’ve both traveled a lot in our lives, and one thing we’ve always appreciated is learning from the experiences, stories, and knowledge of others. Hosting Workawayers is a chance for us to continue that exchange to learn from you just as much as you learn from us.

Starting 12th of January 2026 will be building the "Templo de Cacao", a unique bamboo structure to become the heart of our project, a space for future retreats, gatherings, and experiences designed to reconnect people with themselves and with nature.
The structure will be built using bio-construction principles, mainly with Guadua bamboo, and guided by an experienced Maestro who has spent years mastering bamboo architecture. You will have the opportunity to learn directly from him from structural principles to joinery, shaping, lashing, and the traditional techniques behind this craft.
We are looking for two people with prior experience in carpentry, woodwork, or ideally bamboo construction. Tasks include:
- Assisting in the assembly of the bamboo structure
- Assembly of the hexagonal cacao modules
- Helping prepare, cut, and treat bamboo
- Supporting the team during key phases of construction
This project is hands-on, creative, and deeply rewarding perfect for someone who enjoys working with their hands, problem-solving, and working closely with natural materials.
You’ll gain:
- Practical skills in bamboo architecture and bioconstruction
- Insight into bioconstruction building principles
- Experience living and working in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta
- Connection with a team that values intentional living, creativity, and nature
If you’re passionate about natural building and want to be part of creating something meaningful from the ground up, this project will be a special opportunity.

Hébergement
Workawayers will stay in a cozy wooden cabin in the forest, which Sebastian is currently finishing. The cabin has 2 bedrooms and will shared with our project lead. You will be staying in a shared room with two separate single beds. It’s simple, peaceful, and surrounded by nature a very relaxing place to unwind after work.
The cabin will include:
- a kitchen
- a living area
- a terrace overlooking the forest
- a beautiful outdoor bathroom
- Starlink internet, so you’ll always have a reliable connection despite the remote location
The atmosphere is warm, quiet, and comfortable, ideal for anyone who enjoys nature and a slower pace of life.
Breakfast and lunch will be taken care of every day, so you won’t need to worry about preparing much food yourself.
We aim to make your stay comfortable, nourishing, and welcoming, like joining a small community in the mountains.
Autres infos...
Río Buritaca: We have direct hiking access to a beautiful, wild stretch of the river perfect for cooling off, relaxing, and kayaking down to the sea.
Beach: The town of Buritaca and the coastline are only a short moto ride away. Great for swimming, sunsets, or a quiet afternoon.
Hiking: There are several paths through the mountains and down to the river.
Birdwatching & wildlife spotting: Toucans, howler monkeys, and many other species live with us on the land.
Nearby attractions: Tayrona National Park, Quebrada Valencia, Pozo Encantada, Palomino all reachable by mototaxi or bus from the main road.
Transport Options
We’re located about 2.7 km up the mountain from the main road (Troncal del Caribe). Mototaxis are the fastest and most common way to travel up or down the road. From the main road, you can easily catch buses heading toward Santa Marta or Palomino.
Because we’re remote, some days you may choose to stay on the land and enjoy the peace.
Life here is simple, quiet, and close to nature. But a few things to know:
- We live off-grid and sustainably, so we appreciate mindful use of water and electricity.
- Nights are calm and peaceful. Perfect for early sleepers, stargazing, or reading.
- We value respect for nature and the wildlife that shares this space.
- Clean shared spaces are important since we live close together and in a humid, jungle environment.
We don't have strict rules, mainly common sense, care for the land, and consideration for each other.
