… read more outstanding. Vanda, who knows everything about the operation, is a perfect example of dedication and competence. I had the pleasure of working with Betty and Alice, the talented chefs who keep the restaurant running, and with Marie Anne, who takes great care of the Guesthouse housekeeping.
Graiguenamanagh is surrounded by stunning nature — perfect for riverside walks, woodland strolls, and hikes in the nearby hills. As a perk, workers can use bikes during their free time and also check out the local club for water sports.
Be aware the work is full-time, and the workload can increase, especially with on-call shifts for late housekeeping or check-ins/check-outs outside regular hours.
This is part of the accommodation exchange, but the hours you are on the roster are paid — so it’s also a good chance to make some money if you’re interested.
That said, I just want to thank everyone there. It was a real pleasure to meet and spend time with such hardworking and genuine souls.

… read more peaceful town by the river Barrow and it´s a gem, not only for the breathtaking nature and picturesque landscapes, but also for its vibrant community, which is incredibly friendly and always sings out loud in the pubs of the town! (there are a few pubs and loads of events every weekend and throughout the summer!) There are a couple of busses a day that go to Kilkenny, which is the biggest city close to Graigue, where you can go during your days off. I shared the apartment with other workawayers , and I'm grateful for all the amazing people I´ve met from different parts of the world (in particular, I would like to mention Anisa, Cassandra, Fernando, Julie and Vanda! I love you guys!) and the great fun we had together! The staff at the guesthouse is incredibly hardworking, and it was a pleasure to work and learn alongside them, especially Betty, Alice, Marianne and Liz, who are the pillars of this place! What else can I say? Deciding to go to Ireland and live this experience has been incredibly rewarding and I cannot recommend it enough to all the people that want to work while seeing a beautiful part of Ireland! What can I say about Estania, just brilliant. In our first year recruiting on Workaway we ended up with three great young people. Estefania fitted in straight away, was willing to tackle all the tasks we put in front of her and became a great team member. I stayed from the end of September to October 2021. It was such a pleasure to have met the sparkling, warm and welcoming family of Brigid, Brian, and their daughters, who run the place, as well as the supportive, talkative and charming women who work there in the kitchen. They were very attentive to making us feel comfortable and at home, they
… read more took care of us (I was staying at the same time with 2 other great workawayers, Cilliand and Typhane, who made the experience even better). The village is tiny but lovely, surrounded by a little forest where we used to take morning or after-shift walks. Twice we borrowed the bikes from the guesthouse to go next town, we went kayaking, and they took as on a boat trip through the Barrow river. Also, the restaurant has a young vibe, giving you the chance to meet young locals who also work there during the week. I would 200% recommend it not just because of the gorgeous surroundings, and the very comfortable accommodation, and the positive work environment, and the great chance to discover the emerald island of Ireland, its people and culture, but for the family and staff who made it possible. Our business is hectic and a little chaotic at the height of the tourist season but Laura took it all in her stride. She was willing to go above and beyond the call of duty to make sure our operation ran smoothly, this is much appreciated when you are trying to run a small business. Everyone at Graiguenamanagh wishes Laura well in the future and hopefully we do as well with Workaway for the 2023 season.

I had a room to myself and access to the apartment at all times and am now happy to say that my roommates have become my friends, it's such a good experience to live there together. Graiguenamanagh is small, but really picturesque; it's surrounded by beautiful nature with excellent outdoor opportunities, there are several pubs, even a library and there's a daily bus to Kilkenny if some city vibes are craved. I felt comfortable and at home at all times and would recommend this workway to anyone, it was hard to leave. Thank you for everything, Brigid and Brian, you always meet twice in life as we say in Germany!

… read more good and I had no experience at all in waitressing so was kind of challenge but thanks to Brian and Brigid who were brilliant, I enjoyed a lot my time in Graiguenamanagh (as difficult to write as to say haha). This little village is really lovely and maybe one of the best place to disconnect and be in total immersion in Ireland. There are a lot of activities to do like canoe, rowing, cycling, hiking so if you like nature and sports, it should be a great spot for you ! And if you miss the town, you can get a bus everyday to go to Kilkenny whose is a great town. Brian and Brigit are really kind and will do their best to make you feel confortable. The team was amazing as well : Betty, Annette, Alice, Mary anne were really lovely, patient with my poor english haha and helpful. The waitressing team was great with a special attention to Estefania and Cillian, best co-workers and roomies. 6 months after this experience, I still feel so lucky and grateful to have had this opportunity. Graiguenamanagh is a beautiful village with surrounding hills to climb and there is a very scenic towpath along the river Barrow that is perfect for mountainbiking or taking a tour on the Barrow with a canoe. So if you're looking for a paid job with beautiful nature for recreation on the days off, this is the place to go.
Also: Graiguenamanagh has a few very nice pubs offering live music some evenings, so that's another brilliant opportunity.
Working here was my first waiting job and I was fascinated how much it taught me about people and got me confident in speaking English again. I also really enjoyed making excellent coffee and getting started on latte art.
