I volunteered there for about 1 month. It's a beautiful place, an interesting park. The park staff is very friendly and lovely, Thomas is always there for whatever you need, working there is very easy because they explain everything to you. Truly the most wonderful work away experience! We were surrounded with lovely people incredible art and serene nature. There is a great structure to the work, starting at 8am and finishing by 1pm, we spent our time weeding, gardening, maintaining artworks and tending to the farmyard animals, no day is ever the same and all is very cathartic! Plenty of downtime, we jumped on the bus and headed into Edinburgh many times and spent our afternoons enjoying the incredible sculptures! Wish we had stayed longer, had the best time ever! I cannot recommend this stay enough! Thomas and the rest of the team went out of their way to make the experience amazing. I stayed in this place for 1 month and I am very happy for having met such a beautiful place, with such nice people. Thomas is a smiling and charismatic person, always present and concerned if we are doing well with the work, he always alternated the work to not get boring.

If you enjoy gardening, this is your place to go. The accommodation is a lovely, cozy cottage next to some adorable donkeys. Our workday always started at 8 o'clock and ended at 1 o'clock. Thomas and his team are incredibly friendly and caring. They always make sure that you have everything you need and that you are comfortable and happy. You are responsible for your own food (which is, in my opinion, the best solution) and therefore, receive 25 pounds/week. As I experienced really bad workaway situations where I was not provided with necessities, including food, I was pleasantly surprised by how well workaway actually can work!
The one and only "downside", if you even want to call it like that, is that you will have to share your cabin with some eight-legged creatures, but if I am able to deal with them, despite my arachnophobia, you will be as well :).
Have a lovely time there and enjoy your stay!Vous pouvez seulement contacter les workawayers avec une adhésion active.

We stayed here for a few weeks back in November & December of 2021. We enjoyed the sense of rountine with a Monday - Friday working schedule, finishing at 1pm. Thomas was very good at checking in on us and organising our stay and even gave us a lift to the Pentland Hills on his day off! A big shout out to Daisy who was the gardener we had the pleasure of working with and who really made our time extra fun.
One of the highlights for us was feeding the sheep, donkeys and horse whilst the sun peaked over the hills. Also getting to play with the dogs !
One thing to note is that the garden is open to the public. There are people coming and going so it helps to be aware of the routine of the place. Also, some of the tasks can be quite repetitive - totally worth it for the cabin and location though. Working hours were a balance of working alongside staff members and lone working/ working with other workawayers and local volunteers, all of whom were lovely.

We enjoyed our time - we stayed for three weeks in the lovely Scottish winter. Surprisingly, it was only a few days that we thought we were going to be blown away! The work day was always done at 1pm with a tea break in the morning for all volunteers, workawayers and staff.
Speaking of staff - they were absolutely terrific. Especially Thomas
… read more (with his ever present dog Lolli) and Daisy. They both helped to get us acclimated and settled into whatever work was needed during the day. The estate is enormous and the work is never ending, but the staff makes sure that the workawayers are matched well to their individual skills.
Workawayers are given a weekly stipend to buy groceries to prepare their own food with. The small cabin is comfortable and the kitchen/bathroom/bedrooms are quite adequate.
The grounds are stunning and we look forward to returning to see how all of the trees that we planted have grown in years to come. Many thanks to Thomas and his entire team!

Stayed here a good couple of months. It was my lucky 13th Workaway and one that exceeded all expectations. So, what could You expect there? :)

Work:
Anything you can imagine that could be done outdoors. From animal care to mulching to painting to weeding to planting to pond maintenance... Some jobs can be really dull but there's constantly something new coming up and always something to do overall. And You're more than welcome to propose your preferred tasks. Nothing complicated or too much. Suitable for outdoorsy people who enjoy nature and don't mind getting hands dirty in delightful* Scottish weather ;)
Host:
Thomas and his dog Lollipop will be taking care of you :) Thomas genuinely wants You to have a good experience and even in the busiest moments, he'll find a time and a smile for you. His calmness, simplicity and positive approach to the job and life alone is worth experiencing there. A real national treasure ^^
What else?
Well, it's a busy place with multiple bigger and smaller projects going on with designated staff, whom we (Workawayers) are assisting. Although everyone's friendly and highly appreciative of the help and contribution we provide, it is not exactly the type of place where you have an authentic Scotland experience as such. Suitable for you if you're cool with organizing your own free time and don't need constant attention nor somebody to 'entertain' you. There are gorgeous walks in any direction you go and Edinburgh is just around the corner. ;) As I'm a very independent individual myself, for me, it was the perfect setting as such :)
Definitely one of my favourite places to be. Thanks for having me ;)

What a wonderful place and so wonderful people ! We spent 2 months here during the busy opening period. It was great to do various things (painting, gardening, general maintenance..)
