Description
We are a French family with three young children (ages 6, 5, and 2), living aboard an 18-ton, 28-barrel steel ketch (two masts). For the past four years, we have been sailing the Mediterranean and will soon be heading to West Africa.
Life aboard is rich and creative: we are professional upholsterers (often working on boat restorations during the winter, which influences our positions near active ports) and enjoy many other manual activities related to sailing and life at sea.
We would be delighted to welcome a Workaway volunteer aboard! Depending on your skills, you could help us with various tasks: navigation, boat maintenance, cooking, fishing, but above all, spending time with the children (teaching them about your culture, geography, and language; playing board games with them for hours; tying nautical knots; knitting; singing; playing guitar; painting; and more).
There is always something to do and much to learn in this unique floating lifestyle, while respecting the environment (products used for life at sea). -

Echange culturel et opportunités d'apprendre
You will gain knowledge and practical experience in sailing (knots, fabrics, etc.), navigation (ketch or classic), and the daily operation of a cruising sailboat. You will discover a nomadic lifestyle: traveling slowly (seasonally), living simply in harmony with our surroundings, and letting yourself be guided by the wind (weather and encounters). It will also be an opportunity to forge strong bonds with our family and the people we meet along the way, while discovering new cultures and ways of life.
Please remember that your time here contributes to our children's education :) -

Here are the tasks for which your help would be welcome:
Supporting homeschooling (participating in an established school program) and spending time with the children (board games, fun and creative activities), participating in the general maintenance of the boat and daily tasks on board while respecting the environment. -

We've spent some time in Tunisia, where our kids attended school—and now they speak a bit of Arabic! We love the idea of our children being exposed to different languages and cultures from a young age. -
Hébergement
The boat is clean (we even have a vacuum cleaner!) and comfortable, and the Workawayer will have their own private cabin with a double bed. The galley is spacious and ideal for preparing delicious meals. A friendly deck lounge is available for sharing meals and socializing. The toilets are composting toilets, and the showers are at ambient (cold) temperature on deck.

Autres infos...
We have a dinghy for going ashore if needed, and a kayak. Shore excursions are organized as a group, and for independent outings, training in cleat knots, paddling, and weather knowledge is required.
Please do not smoke on board. Important: As we do not have a fixed address, the meeting point and end location will be agreed upon later. If we change countries during your stay, you must have a passport that allows you to continue traveling with us (currently in Europe but near Turkey, for example). -
