Description
Hello! My name is Skye (21) and I live in a beautiful area of the Kadjiado County in Kenya with my parents Stewart and Sandie. I have spent a few years traveling and doing WorkAways myself and now I am home helping with our family business, I think it is a great time to switch up and become a host!
We live on a large area of natural bush land that is just less than two hours from Nairobi. My parents have built two beautiful bush homes that we rent out to people who want to be close to nature and enjoy peace and quiet. We spend most of our time maintaining our land and the houses and creating unforgettable experiences for our guests with our fantastic team of local staff.
We live in a very rural area and are lucky enough to see lots of wildlife every day! (The bird life is superb, bring your binoculars). We feel so lucky to be in such a beautiful place and we do our best to protect it.
Over the last year we have started to try and be as self sufficient as possible, we are off grid and use solar power, we have chickens, ducks, goats, three naughty donkeys and two cows. We have been trying to grow a lot of our own food and would really love some help with this as we are still learning about growing organic vegetables.
Someone who is down to earth, polite, a hard worker and up for new experiences and challenges will be best for this job.Types d'aide et opportunités d'apprendre

This exchange would work well for someone who would love to be surrounded by nature and experience the remote atmosphere of rural Kenya. It would be best to have your own car to give you more freedom but if this is not possible I am sure we can work around it.
There are lots of great walks and hikes to do in the area.
The bird life and wild life is wonderful here.
When there are no guests staying at the houses you are welcome to use the pools.
There are plenty of opportunities to learn Swahili from Stewart or our lovely staff.
We set up a weekly cinema night with our projector which is great fun!
Amboseli National Park (Meshanani Gate), is 1 and 3/4 hrs. drive via Namanga.
There is Wifi in the houses we rent out and we have Starlink at our house so if you have work to do online you can relax by the pool or on our verandah by the water hole.
Please keep in mind the area is quite remote and there are not always a lot of things to do.
We are very passionate about leading a healthy lifestyle. I (Skye) make a lot of fermented foods, kefir, gluten free bread and herbal tinctures. I also make natural skin care products like tallow balm, deodorant and soap. We are doing our best to use natural products. I am always happy to teach people how to do any of these things and I am also interested to learn from you.Aide
Vegetable garden!
We would love to host someone or a couple who have experience with organic gardening, permiculture etc.
We have a great collection of organic heritage seeds, a good supply of water and lots of people willing to start a wonderful herb and vegetable garden. However, we feel that our knowledge is lacking a bit.
It would be great to sit down with someone who knows about gardening and together design a vegetable garden, make a monthly plan, prepare the soil, plant some seeds and start the journey! Knowledge on organic fertilizers and pesticides would also be very useful.
We are lucky enough to have some great staff that help us with our ornamental gardens around the houses, together we have grown some vegetables in our gardens but it is obvious that we all need some guidance.
Cows/goats
We have recently bought two milking cows and eight goats. Anyone who has knowledge of rearing these animals would also be great.
We would also like to make our own cheese and other dairy products.
Photography/drone etc
We have a website, facebook and Instagram page for our two houses. I do my best to advertise the beauty of the houses and the activities for guests to do. However, I am often told that the photos do not do the houses justice! It would be wonderful to host someone who could take lots of great photos and videos we could use to advertise this wonderful place.Langues parlées

We are currently making a platform for a safari tent with en-suite bathroom and a little kitchen. As we are still setting this up, Workaways could stay in one of our houses that we rent out if it is not booked, they may have to move around a little bit if there is a last minute booking. Bedding and towels are provided.
Regarding food:
You will have your own kitchen and we will provide you with most foods like rice, pasta, flour, sugar, tinned chickpeas etc. and we can get some fresh produce for you from our little local village, things like, spinach, tomatoes, potatoes, onions, mangoes , bananas etc. (when in season). If you are coming from Nairobi I would recommend getting speciality things like - cheese, cream, meat, wine etc.
It would be great to have some meals together when we get some time.Autres infos...
