    Description

I run a registered nonprofit in Madagascar that started the first mobile library in the country in 2016. We focus on education, re-greening, culinary mushrooms, health and community guidance. This holistic approach provides opportunities to improve literacy, community health, economic well-being, sustainable livelihoods, and environmental conservation. We work on projects through our mobile library that give people in isolated villages access to important opportunities.

  • Aide

    Aide

English, French, or Malagasy speaking people that want to teach language. People who want to read and/or teach others of various ages for our mobile library, which is our main project. Also, people who know permaculture, food forests and general agro-forestry. People who understand mycology and the art of growing culinary mushrooms for food and income. We also seek people that are health professionals, can teach health & hygiene classes, IT / internet access experts, clean water implementation, solar installments, and Microfinance / micro loan implementation for NGOs. In some cases, you may even be the type of person with a level of skill that could help us get new projects off the ground, such as our health department.

Education is a big part of the Mobile Library and as such various opportunities arise to not only teach, but also learn language in a cultural exchange setting. French and Malagasy are languages we can teach. In Madagascar Malagasy is the first language, French is second and English is third.

  • Hébergement

    Hébergement

Our Co-founder and his family will ensure that you stay in your own private room connected to the family home and will be provided all meals when staying in the capital city and have access to a great toilet/bathroom and utilities. When on tour visiting the villages we stay at local hotels and in these situations we ask that you cover your own costs, which is usually around $45 for a more comfortable stay, food and drinks each day, unless you want to stay as JJ and the team does, which is usually a little more rough for most foreign travelers. We usually stay at the family home in the capital city Friday - Monday and then Tuesday - Friday morning we are on tour.

There is so much to do and we don't just have a tour option where you would see minimum 2 isolated villages intimately, but also our Food Forest that utilizes agro-forestry methods and features 2 round houses custom designed by Hery, JJ's wife and built by JJ and team. There is also opportunity, depending upon how long you stay, to visit primary and secondary jungles in Madagascar where you can ask just about any question and JJ will be able to give you a real custom tour. Since JJ is a 12 year veteran tour guide you really can't ask for a better way to initiate intimate cultural exchanges and also learn about everything around you no matter how tiny or big.

It is also encouraged to bring gifts with you such as books, old e-readers, solar tech, wifi tech, and general things that could make life in Madagascar easier. There will also be a chance to buy gifts for kids, schools, etc in the capital city before heading out on tour.
