    Description

We are a young, energetic couple, transitioning onto the family farm. Help us get settled! We have two boys, Liam born in April 2016 and Emil, born in December 2019. Our farm is a 22,000 acre (11,000 hectare) cattle ranch, situated in the north east of Namibia in close proximity of the Waterberg Plateau National Park. Apart from our cattle, it is also home to an abundance of wildlife. Our homestead has a citrus orchard and a veggie garden to supplement our dietary needs. It is our goal to live environmentally-friendly by applying regenerative farming methods.

    1. We need help with our garden and orchard, since we try to be self-sufficient throughout the year. Duties will include cultivating the garden, harvesting, canning and related duties. We also produce a few meat products, where any help would be appreciated.

    2. Help with animal care would include tending to sick animals, vaccinating cattle , feeding chickens and pigeons as well as our 5 little dogs and cat.

    3. Since we do most of our repair work ourselves, we could occupy somebody full-time with technical tasks like fixing machinery, welding structures, or helping with harvesting hay, fencing or similar farm duties.
We would also need help with our guest house , Keeping all the rooms , bathrooms and living room clean and available for guest.

Voluneteers will have the option between a guest room or a rustic room with the most beautiful view of the farm, available Electricity, slow internet, and hot water for showers are just some of the commodities we ourselves appreciate. We try to live off the land, eat from what we have. Volunteers will be able to work shoulder to shoulder with our friendly staff, being exposed to some cultural interaction.

We also prefer that volunteers contribute to grocery shopping. If you have any special dietary requirements or preferences then it is your responsibility to provide it.
Volunteers are expected to contribute to grocery shopping.

We might consider single people, But prefer couples as couplea can entertain each other.

We speak German, English, and Afrikaans but we also have staff who speak a variety of indigenous languages including Herero, Damara, and Oshivambo. They enjoy sharing their culture and customs and are very knowledgeable about local plants and animals. They also enjoy learning new things from visitors.

It is a big farm with lots of possibilities. Apart from the help we need described above, we are also into new ideas and input from volunteers. We appreciate people who take initiative with a project or run with an idea. We only ask that it fits with our sustainable approach to farming.

We also would appreciate help with cooking and enjoy trying new foods.

    Hébergement

We have a rustic room available, toilet and shower included, with an outdoor kitchen below, along with a pool table and dart board. It has a double bed and closet with a lock. The swimming pool is just outside. WE also have a guest room with a bath and shower , closet and coffee/tea available and a view to the swimming pool and mountians.
Volunteers can choose which they prefer. A washing machine is available for clothes with a line to hang dry. We have electricity but being that we run mostly on solar, it is limited, and we ask volunteers to be mindful of using lights and electronics.

We are 45 minutes from the nearest town, so volunteers should be prepared to entertain themselves in the bush. It is possible to visit the nearby Waterberg Plateau National Park or Cheetah Conservation Fund. Other activities could be hiking, horse riding, or teaching our staff's pre-school kids.

We ask visitors to our home to be respectful. By this we mean, we are happy to share what we have, but we ask that tools, equipment, books, etc. be used properly and returned to where they came from. We enjoy meeting new people and learning about their lives, but also need time to ourselves and cannot be responsible to entertain volunteers all the time. We ask that our private areas remain for us and that volunteers respect quiet hours. We are fine with drinking alcohol or smoking, but also ask that it be done respectfully.

It is best if volunteers have their own transportation. We are off the beaten track and are not easy to get to with public transportation. In certain cases, we can arrange pick-ups/drop-offs, but we are far from town and even farther from Windhoek.
