Nile River School is actually a children's center in the small village of Al Baharwa near Ayat south of Cairo on the Nile. It is a free service to the village that has high illiteracy. About 40 children come to the center in the mornings for kindergarten and in the afternoon older children for reading activities. Language is not a problem for volunteers.
We can accommodate but are not self-sufficient in food yet in our garden so we would like volunteers to provide for their own food.
As the work is around children and community we prefer volunteers who can spend at least three months to one year with us. The reason is that It takes time to get to know the children and their needs and how to help best. For volunteers who stay for one month, the work would be to help improve the place and the gardens.
You can also interact with the teachers and local volunteers who come and visit.
It is possible that overnight you may be alone at the project. The place is safe.
There is no internet access.
We can only take women or couples and only two women or a couple at one time.
