  Description

  My name is Gideon, and in 2016 I started a community-based organization with a simple goal: to fight poverty by improving access to quality education in the rural villages of Kyamagwa and Ivunamba in Jinja District, Uganda. We believe education creates opportunity, confidence, and long-term change.
  
  Our project is based close to Lake Victoria and the source of the River Nile, in a calm and welcoming community where people are eager to connect, learn, and share cultures. Jinja is also well known for adventure activities such as white-water rafting and bungee jumping, making it an exciting place to volunteer and explore.
  
  From 2016 to 2023, we built a community pre-primary and primary school in Kyamagwa, which now supports nearly 400 children. By helping children—especially girls—stay in school, the project has contributed to reducing child labour, early pregnancies, and child marriages. In 2024, we extended our work to Ivunamba village, where access to education is extremely limited and more than 90% of children cannot read or write.
  
  How You Can Help as a Volunteer
  
  - Volunteers are welcome to contribute in many hands-on ways, including:
  - Teaching English, Maths, Reading, or Creative Arts
  - Assisting local teachers in classrooms
  - Supporting early childhood education
  - Helping with lesson preparation, games, and learning activities
  - Taking part in light renovation projects such as painting and cleaning
  - Organising sports, music, and life-skills activities
  
  No formal teaching qualification is required—just enthusiasm, patience, and an open heart.

  Aide

  Travellers at our project can make a real impact by supporting classroom learning, tutoring children, and assisting with pre-primary activities like storytelling, games, and basic literacy. They can also help with school maintenance and minor construction, run arts, sports, and cultural programs, or contribute their skills in digital work, fundraising, and documentation. Volunteers with expertise in health, nutrition, or community development can lead hygiene, literacy, or awareness initiatives. Overall, their time and skills help improve both education and the well-being of the community, while creating a meaningful, hands-on experience for themselves.
