    Description

Hi! I'm Lazar. A few years ago I moved to a farm on the edge of Fruška Gora National Park, just half an hour from Novi Sad and about an hour from Belgrade. I live here with my partner, Arrow - though lately she’s been spending part of her time in China for family reasons, so it’s often just me on the farm. And Padma the cat :)

I 've been a member of other hospitality exchange networks for more than 20 years, and I’ve hosted and stayed with what must be hundreds of people. Hospitality is important to me, and I see Workawayers first and foremost as guests, not just extra farm hands.

*** Important update: I'm looking for someone to help with house-sitting & cat-sitting for any number of days, from January 18 to March 4. The important thing is that you arrive here sometime before January 18, so we can discuss and arrange everything for your stay. My mom will come to check on the cat from time to time, but I'd rather have someone here for as many days as possible. Non-smokers only. If you have your ID verified here on Workaway, that's a huge plus. ****

If it grows, crawls, flies, or photosynthesizes - I’m interested. I know a lot about trees, mushrooms, insects, birds, ecosystems and so on. I often go to the forest (it's a short walk from the house) and keep learning about how it all works together. I also keep planting stuff on the property - I must've brought hundreds of plants, and I'm far from done :) If that kind of stuff excites you, I’m happy to overshare.

    Aide

What I need help with generally depends on the season: gardening (weeding, watering, pruning, digging etc), fruit picking, making jams and other fruit preserves, chopping firewood, maintaining the yard (sweeping, mowing the grass and so on), and various light repair projects on the property. You don't need to be strong or fit, but you should at least be acquainted with the concept of helping outside and getting your hands dirty. I'll do my best to find tasks that suit your abilities; if a task doesn't suit you, feel free to say so and we'll think of something else. I don't check how many hours you've spent helping - that's entirely up to you and your work ethic.

There are no animals on the farm (other than the cat).

I am interested in practicing Spanish and Russian (conversational, but with mistakes), and improving my Chinese (not great but usable) and Turkish (very broken).

  • Hébergement

    Hébergement

You get a separate room all to yourself. It's a nice modern room, like any other in the house.

All the food will be provided. We generally don't eat meat. If you are vegan, we cook vegan. Depending on the season, a lot of what we eat might come from our garden, orchard and the forest.

The forest starts right at the end of the village, so hiking is an obvious option (the national park is about 80 km long and mostly covered by forest). The mountain is criss-crossed by hiking trails. If I have the time, I can take you for a hike and show you some interesting spots. If not, I can share some GPS trails I made that you can follow on your phone, so you don't get lost in the forest.

We have a lot of books in English and you are welcome to help yourself to our library. The village is small and there is no public transport to anywhere, but I do have a car and I'm happy to pick you up or take you wherever you need to be.

    Also, please keep in mind:

    1) Only accepting one person at a time these days.
    2) Make sure you have a nice profile, with some info about you and a photo.
    3) Non-smokers only.
