    Description

Want to help build a farming community? Love the sea? After finishing the building of our boat and our first sea-trial trip, we are currently based on an organic apple farm 40 minutes south of Oslo. There we keep bees both for pollination and honey production, grow some potatoes/carrots/tomatoes/peas... and plan to start with some small-scale regenerative farming.

We are a community-based project born over 10 years ago. Involving people from all over the globe, we hope to eventually form a community present both on land and at sea, that will cooperate with eco-villages, sharing the bliss of sustainable (and restoring!) living and traveling through organic farming and sailing —connecting places and people across the oceans.

If you have any knowledge or interest in permaculture, self-sufficiency, alternative living, etc., don't hesitate to contact us and share your ideas. Our hopes are for the farm to flourish into a place where food, thoughts, plans, adventures, and —of course— boats, can grow ;)

Due to Covid-19 and quarantine compliances, it has been a bit hard to host volunteers this summer. As the winter puts everything to sleep, we focus more on building/infrastructure renovation projects and equipment preparation for next season (e.g. melting wax, making boxes/frames).

Seeing that the situation continues and restrictions keep making it difficult to host, we will prioritize local travelers/volunteers that are already in the country. Still, if you really want to join us, contact us and get the application form. We will send it to you so you can apply! And possibly come, if not now, at a later stage.

We can host around 4 volunteers (kids and pets welcomed as well!).

From day one this project has been based on a very firm learning-by-doing DIY policy, and that has inspired a lot of our participants through the years to start and experiment with their own side projects. Learning opportunities relate to areas within:

    Farming / Beekeeping / Machining / Welding / Casting / Sailing

Please, do understand that long-term volunteers will have more chances of participating on more elaborated skill-learning activities, such as queen-breeding or machinery using, than short-termers.

  • Aide

    Aide

Experience, though appreciated depending on the tasks, is not required as long as there is a strong will to learn.
We usually ask for a minimum commitment of 30 days, with a weeklong trial period, and the expected schedule goes from Monday to Friday (weekends off).

In coming here you may be asked to do anything from harvesting, pruning and planting, to jam making, roof building, digging, painting and even grinding barley for the morning porridge. It is also guaranteed that you will be asked to cook (mainly vegetarian diet) for the community —we are generally very grateful towards food, so don’t feel pressured if you are not very skilled. It's always interesting to exchange and get to learn new recipes!

Life in the farm distances very much from urban life and volunteers usually become the main source of social interaction, so be ready for a multi-cultural environment rather than a local immersion. When not working, there are forests to explore, and we have skis, tents and bikes available for those who want to go adventuring, as well as some diving equipment for the underwater life passionate.

Bus transport is available to reach the nearest town and train connection.

Yes! We love pets! We have recently welcomed in a young stray cat though, so maybe it's not the best combination right now if you are bringing a very easily excited and cat-targeted companion. In any case, let us know and see what options are there.
