    Description

Truly Canadiana, mulitgenerational farm experience complete with a log home and rustic log cabin for you. Our farm is on nineteen park-like acres with walks through forest, bog, creek, pond and meadow. Wild flowers galore. Fascinating bird watching, includes a resident barred owl family! Enjoy a farm stay where you can interact with friendly farm animals like Zoey our border collie, two cats, ducks, geese, and chickens. We are striving to be sustainable and practice ecological, organic and permaculture methods. We have approximately 200 kinds of fruits, nuts and berries planted, along with an acre of family garden which includes two greenhouses!.

We live with wildlife and have spotted moose, deer, bear, coyotes, racoon, bobcat and numerous bird species including a resident barred owl family whom you will often spot and hear at nite. All this less than 2 km to town!

We are a family, comprised of retired professional senior couple and junior couple who manage the land, growing the garden and elderberries.

COVID: Currently, Salmon Arm is fairly safe - One of us is seriously immune compromised so we take all necessary precautions. We practise social distancing and two weeks isolation. We are being cautious following all the recommendations.

We are seeking independent and enthusiastic workers ~ Let us know your skills and we will do our best to put them to good use! We would like someone who is able to work independently as well as alongside us!
Workers should be prepared to work alone on their own during times when hosts are not available to work alongside of you. We will give good instruction and direction so you know what and how to do things

GARDENING, YARD WORK, TRAIL BUILDING AND MAINTENANCE: raking, digging, planting, watering, weeding, transplanting, harvesting, landscaping, making and stacking firewood, trimming branches for fire safe...

You will be able to experience intergenerational farm living. You will learn about sustainable gardening, learn the many types of fruits, vegetables, nuts and berries we are able to produce, how to organically deal with pests and problems encountered in the production of our food. You will see the many challenges that nature provides, but rewards us at the same time. You will be able to join us in the preservation of the food we produce for the year. Interact with the farm animals. Help us in building trails to access the fallen trees we use as firewood. We need to fire safe our yard which involves branch trimming as well as other tidy up projects. We will help you learn the many species of forest trees, shrubs, flora and the fauna as well if you are interested.

    Hébergement

Due to COVID 19 we encourage your own van or accommodation. However, we can offer a rustic "hide away" log cabin. It is a place of solitude set by the pond and by a small waterfall. Nite sounds of owls, frogs and crickets etc can be expected! If you have your own sleeping accommodation in a van, camper or motorhome there is lots of room for you to park. There is a bathroom, separate from the main living area you may need to share with any others You will each be responsible for insuring it is clean and safe for all after use.

We will provide your food , but you may need to do some of your own food preparation. We will hope to have some communal outdoor meals. We will work this out with each individual.

We will have a bicycle available for you to use if you do not have your own transportation. There are many networks of hiking, biking trails close by. After your workday there is not only the wilderness all around us to explore, but also a nearby recreation centre which has a pool, hot tub, sauna, and gym . We are 5 minute drive to the beach, golfing, downtown, bowling, the college, hospital and most amenities. Having a car is beneficial otherwise there are local buses.

Salmon Arm is nestled amongst mountains and surrounded by lakes, rivers, and many smaller communities to explore. The population is approximately 18,000 people situated on Shuswap Lake in central British Columbia, half way between Vancouver and Calgary - about 4 hours from Banff.

If you have a car, you can easily explore nearby towns of Sicamous, Enderby, Sorrento, Blind Bay, all within 20 minutes or, venture a little further to Chase, Armstrong, and Vernon all within 40 min. or in an hour go to Falkland, Revelstoke, Kelowna and Kamloops. Much to see and do!

Farmers Markets are here on Saturdays and Wednesdays, and other nearby areas on different days.

We have traveled extensively, volunteered abroad and are look forward to welcoming people from new cultures to our place.
