Description
🇬🇧 WELCOME!
Would you be interested in being part of the very first phase of a creative project on the beach? Come and help us build our brand-new tropical Art Residency in Chacahua!
ABOUT THE PLACE:
The project is located in Chacahua and is about 6 km away from the center, which can be reached either by bike in 30 min or by public transport. We also have a boat that we use to go to the town, fishing and just enjoy the beautiful lagoon and ocean.
The Art Residency takes place on private land that is 3.2 Hectare. m wide, the beach is right in front of the place and the mangroves on the side. A place of raw nature where peace can be found and where you can reconnect deeply with Mother Nature – “Pachamama” as we call her here.
The place runs with solar panels, we have an eco-toilet and shower :)
and we also have a super fast internet connection available if you need to use it!
“Lagunas de Chacahua” is a stunning national park on the Pacific Ocean Coast. It’s full of nature, color and life. If you want to discover the immense natural beauty of the Oaxacan coast, you will find it here.
In your free time there are lots of activities to do nearby, such as hiking, surfing, stars watching, fishing, yoga. We love to play volleyball during the sunset, and I can also show you around our beautiful lagoon. Chacahua is surfers' paradise and also a great place to learn.
On weekends you will also be able to enjoy unforgettable tours by boat in the lagoon and in the ocean. Where I can take you fishing, swimming with dolphins, bird watching and many other amazing adventures.
Chacahua is a place of extraordinary natural beauty - you have to see it to believe it!
OUR VISION:
The heart of our mission is to open our space for passionate artists and indigenous peoples from all areas of Mexico. It is our hope to offer these local creatives the sanctuary they deserve to nourish their artistic skills and their overall wellbeing. It is imperative that we support Mexican artists who have incredible capabilities but lack the space, time and funding to materialise their visions. There are thousands of tremendously talented Mexican painters, sculptors and visionaries who we want to invite here to dedicate time to their craft. Here they will be welcomed whole heartedly with a place to sleep, meals and materials for creation. All art materials will be locally and ethically resourced, food will be home grown and cooked and the accommodations will be nestled in the serene nature of our place.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
• Volunteers that can work 5 hours a day, five days a week
• People with experience of building sustainable structures/eco-houses
• People with agriculture experience who can make us a vegetable patch and plant crops, and who can supervise the watering of the plants.
• People who are fluent in Spanish and/or English
• People with permaculture experience
• People with artistic skills for creating murals, paintings, sculptures ...
• People with artistic skills for creating murals, paintings, sculptures ...
• People that could teach the community about art, languages and more ...
• Photographers and filmmakers to help us document the first moments of our projects
At the moment, we will give priority to people with building and agriculture skills but let us know your skills, and together we can come up with a role that works for you!
There is a minimum stay of 2 weeks if you want to come and volunteer. We are just starting this community and aim to create a unique and magical place with an atmosphere of mutual care, respect and love.
I provide two delicious meals a day from Monday to Friday (breakfast and dinner). On Saturday and Sunday everyone is off. You can go to Chacahua town and find plenty options to eat or go a bit further with a day/weekend trip to Puerto Escondido, Mazunte or Zipolite. Otherwise, you can also use our beautiful kitchen just in front of the sea and enjoy the view of whales and dolphins jumping just a few meters away from the shore.
If you are asking yourself how many people are doing volunteer work, we usually have between 3 and 12 volunteers. You will be working most of the time with another person.
If you feel enthusiastic about being immersed in nature, are hands-on, and have any of the above skills, this could be the place for you!
Thanks for your interest! We are so excited to hear from you!
With love,
Matteo
