im writing this about a month after leaving the community, with nothing but gratitude and nostalgia for my experience there ! susanne, mathieu, luca, lina, elena, mathieu (another!), the other workawayers (aisara, hugo :) ) and all of the many, many other faces that were constantly in and out of the house were all so lovely, each in their own

in regards to the work, it never really felt like work to me. it was always enjoyable, rewarding, at times physically taxing, but always in a sustainable and manageable way. i felt helpful and could see the results of my work everyday. even after the "required" hours were finished, i often continued because i simply enjoyed it :) making jam, cakes, picking fruit, etc!
as a whole the feeling of community created there was wonderful. such a sense of care, engagement, and freedom still. we would eat together, talk together, go on excursions together, but i still had the freedom to explore nearby places often, usually going into lausanne or another city every week, if not multiple times a week.

Tout ce petit monde fait que l'on ne s'y ennui jamais. C'était vraiment agréable de se sentir parmi cette belle communauté.
Je crois que n'importe qui aspirerait à pouvoir vivre dans un endroit aussi idyllique entouré de gens aussi chouette et agréable.
Merci encore Mathieu et Susanne de m'avoir accueilli malgré les circonstances un peu particulières.
Et merci à tous pour tout ces moments d'échange, de repas et d'apéro partagé et de bonne humeur constante.
Pour ce qui est des alentours vous tomberez certainement sous le charme des nombreux sites exceptionnels (Gorges de l'Orbe, La Tine de Conflens, Cascade du Dard). Et enfin pour ce qui est de la fête je vous invite à découvrir l'incroyable Filature à la Sarraz. Lieu multi culturel et artisan à voir et à vivre absolument.

We had a great time with Pablo! He was the perfect workawayer for us. He worked very well in any task we gave him. He proved to be talented in various area, was it in the garden, cleaning the house or fixing different tools, bikes, doors or even the kitchen. He was always carful and did a great job.

This place is just a little paradise that you'll wish to never leave. It is absolutely peaceful, with a lot of energy from the people and big garden. It would be too hard to describe everything in a few line, but to me it seems to be the perfect life style that everyone should use as an everyday life. I think it became my new lifegoal.

… read more always delicious, the people are always open to have good/interesting conversation, the kids are just so full of life and almost always so happy. And there is so much to learn about the garden, the efficiency of the house, the homeschooling, the animals and there are always new people coming in the house, so there is no time to be bored.
Also there is so much to do around, beautiful watefall of La Tine, where i almost went everyday, many walks in the nature and mountain, the train station is really not far so you can easily go anywhere, and don't forget to go swimm with Valentina in the very cold river, the best way to wake up after a night outside.

This house (in middle of nowhere) is more animated then most villages around. I just love so much this dynamic. It's alive! It has a real spirit.
I know that I will miss this a lot. All those noises : the rooster, the chickens, the cat meowing in the garden, the people coming in and going, the birds on the trees, the fire in the oven, kids
… read more laughting or fighting, someone is cooking, eating, playing board games, singing, partying or simply doing crazy stuff.
Sometimes when no one is there or when everyone is asleep late at night you can hear the deep silence. The slow wind in the trees, the calm nature, the garden lighting up from the moonlight, the stars up there, all this makes it so magical.
And then when the sun rises, the rooster breaks the silent and everything starts again.
How beautiful!
I feel the people in this place found the right balance between not caring about societal standards and living their own way but still maintaning a healthy social life. This is actually pretty hard to achieve. Thank you for being so inspiring on this !

These 3 adults and 6 children among with there relatives and friends have their enormous hart 💖 on the right place.

… read more Building a big part of the chicken coop was something I really enjoyed doing.
Together with my son of 7 years old and his mother (for a couple of times), we explored the beautiful surroundings and just relaxed in the garden. 80% of the food I ate, was directly harvested from their own garden. It was delicious!
Thank you guys for sharing your home and opening up your familie, the most precious thing there is. Me and my son really felt a part of the familie. Thank you for the warm, open, honest conversations and letting me see how the dynamics in your joint familie worked.

I loved this Workaway so much it was hard to say goodbye! Every member of these 2 special families is wonderful in their own unique way. Working / playing alongside them will always bring a smile to your face. Vibrant beaches of lake Geneva, with so much going on in Lausanne (a really easy and short ride from La Sarraz). Plenty of nature walks and
… read more mountain bike routes in the hills and mountains nearby, with the rare possibility of seeing a European lynx. The area is famous for its hikes and paragliding opportunities. See how Gruyère or Emmental is traditionally made, as well as the chocolate and local breweries which are fantastic. Learn how to start bonfires from just 2 sticks and cook all your delicious meals on it, playing with children of the local families and becoming apart of their camping tradition feels more like summer camp rather than work!! Waterfalls, fresh water swims, interesting (and playful) wildlife; both in the house with the Papillon dog and 4 cats, and also wild! Local sport, dance, singing and music opportunities everywhere. It's hard to find words. I left Le Crêt-Maunet some days ago and I really miss it. It feels like missing home in a way. I had a wonderful time with the Antilles and Glayres who became kind of my family during the six weeks I stayed with them (planned were 3 or 4). They are incredible people. Each of them in his or her way. And each of them had
… read more something to teach me. They gave me hope and ideas.
I could see there once again the effectiveness of education in freedom. They have taken me any of my doubts against homeschooling. It was very interesting to get an impression of practiced alternative education in the homeschooling center FEEL. I think I would have had to stay longer to get really involved but still it was a really inspiring experience. How it is working... Just parents with their children creating a space to learn together.
I did a lot of different jobs. No day was like the other. It could be helping in the garden, teaching some German, cleaning together, helping renovating the attic, helping organising the wood or at FEEL helping the children during lessons, cleaning or just playing with the children and hanging around with all the nice people there. In the end I started giving lessons on my own but that was right before I left so unfortunately I couldn't continue it.
All in all it wasn't like working and then enjoying the free time. It was just living together. And whenever I wanted to go for a walk or to Lausanne or whatever I wanted to do I could do it.
