Chris arrived in Barra after us doing a last minute call out as we had a workawayer who didn't make it. Chris although 19, has a maturity beyond his years and he was really an asset to our team. He took on all the tasks in the hostel and had such good rapport with all the guests. He has an easy going nature and was thorough in his work, self
… read more motivated, reliant and good company to have around. He helped with neighbour's gardens and was able to turn his hand to any jobs asked. We really enjoyed having Chris with us and would highly recommend any workaway host to take him on.

Staying at Chris and Katie’s hostel was more than just finding a place to sleep—it was finding a home when I needed it most. I came for the adventure, but ended up getting sick and stuck for two weeks. … read more far beyond what anyone would expect from hostel owners. They looked after me like family—checking in on me, making sure I had everything I needed, and always offering a warm smile or some encouraging words. In a place full of strangers, they made me feel safe, seen, and cared for.
The hostel itself is welcoming and full of heart, just like its hosts. But what truly makes it special is the atmosphere they’ve created—one of genuine care, laughter, and community. I’ll never forget their generosity and the quiet strength of their support when I was most vulnerable.
Thank you both. I left your hostel with gratitude, restored health, and a reminder of how good people can be.
Truly one of the best Workaway experiences we have ever had! A wonderful job on a wonderful island with wonderful people! We spent roughly 6 months working for Chris and Katie and would happily have worked another 6 if the season called for it. If you get the opportunity to come work here, we highly recommend doing so!
Wonderful host family, comfortable accomodation, and beautiful island. Thanks for a brilliant experience.

Katie and Chris were perfect hosts for my Workaway experience. They were very nice, generous, welcoming and helpful! I would recommend the trip to Barra in their cozy hostel and to work with them! They made me discover the island and brought me with them for some nice activities. I'm very grateful!

Maria- mai worked for us for 4 weeks helping as hostel warden for our family run hostel. She was brilliant! She was conscientious, friendly, worked hard and really helpful. We'd recommend maria-mai highly!

Bernie is a fabulous person who we have had coming back for the last few years for a few months at a time. Bernie is a great worker and is also compassionate and understanding and really easy to work with. She is happy to roll up her sleeves and work hard and she is mixes really well with everyone around her.

This was my first workaway experience and I hit the jackpot. I stayed for around 6 weeks in September and Octiber. Barra and Vatersay are stunning islands, white beaches with turquoise water. Katie and Chris are very welcoming, friendly, relaxed and extremely trustworthy. The hostel is amazing in a beautiful location. The work is straight forward
