I have only spent a tiny week and mostly with Marion, at their special place, which is very beautiful and quite remote. A true place to find some peace! The nature is unbelievably lush, and they are working hard to preserve it.
Marion was dedicated to show me as many things as possible to make the best of my stay. She gladly taught me how to do
… read more Eco-Printing on fabrics (which is so cool, a quite easy and a super satisfying skill to get!), and also involved me with ResQ, her organisation which recycle fabrics (a beautiful project based on volunteering).
She introduced me to the philosophy of slowlyness: slow-fashion, slow-cooking and now I'm slow-traveling! Though, she is a busy woman who never really stops and likes to be helpful and make a good use of her time. She has always something to do and accept to receive some help (sometimes! aha).
She is a great cook and likes to make sure that volunteers have enough in their plate. She is a very generous human being and has her own way to show it (which might be expressed through her cooking).
I would recommend to come to Marion's place if you are looking for some gardening in a green little heaven, with the quietness of a remoted place!

I had a really wonderful time with Marion and Hank at their idyllic property and homestead. They are a very welcoming, kind couple and really look after their Workawayers, with comfortable accommodation, delicious home-cooked food (often home-grown), as well as clear instructions and expectations on the varied work.

… read more well as attending a wet-felting class and learning how to eco-print with native leaves from the garden, both crafts have re-ignited my interest in art & craft. Marion is exceptionally creative, both in her studio and in the garden and is extremely knowledgeable in both areas. It was a real treat to spend time in such an inspirational garden and as an experienced gardener I really appreciated all the hard work Marion has put into it - beautiful flowing, naturalistic planting with lots of quirky sculptures and features - in fact a smile around every corner!
And the work Hank has put into the regenerative native planting on their extensive land is to be admired, leaving a true legacy far beyond his lifetime, I wish there were more selfless people in the world like this couple.
This is a truly unique experience, and although it was my first Workaway, I can't imagine another placement matching it, nor recommend it highly enough. Thank you Marion and Hank!This Workawayer has chosen to keep their profile private.

Madison is great volunteer and has very broad interests. She is very keen to learn and assist with any task that is presented to her. We gardened and did lots of craft work, our felting group very much appreciated Madison's assistance and company too.

Marion provides a gentle and kind space. In my week stay, I acquired a wondrous amount of novel skills, including wet felting and eco-dying. Each day was extremely diverse in tasks, from satisfying gardening to printing textiles with leaves and helping out with a vest felting workshop in Richmond. Marion has a wealth of knowledge, and is a fantastic host. Gardening days were punctuated with tea breaks with fresh tea with herbs from the garden and beautiful plates of crackers, cheese, and fruit. In general, Marion is an amazing cook and I looked forward every day to mealtimes.
I left with a newfound joy for wet felting and am intending on felting gifts for my family when I get some art supplies.
The land and home are beautiful, and serve as a peaceful place to learn Marion’s craft and reforestation skills.Comentário

I spent a wonderful four weeks with Marion and Henk. Marion is a dietitian and an amazing artist. Henk has his own business and is very mechanically oriented and can fix anything. They both are very kind and welcoming. Not only is their home beautiful, but the gardens and the rest of the farm are stunning as well.

… read more and with other outside jobs. I would work until noon, when we would stop for tea and a snack, then continue until 2 PM when we would have lunch. The rest of the day was free. Marion taught me how to felt, and I often helped in her art studio on a couple of large projects she created.
Marion and Henk are from Holland, and I very much enjoyed learning about the Dutch culture. Marion is an amazing cook…you will not go hungry here! My accommodation was a very cozy sleepout beside the house.

We spent 10 days here. During this time we learnt a lot about gardening and the different uses of the plants, about mosaiks and about New Zealand. Although Marion is not a kiwi, she has a really good knowledge about the country, its strenghts and weaknesses.

We were able do so many different things from gardening and art projects to helping with shearing the wonderful alpaca’s they have on their land.
Their house is not near a shopping mall or a lot of shops and that’s exactly what attracted us.
Be prepared to be outside and hands on and you will not be disappointed.

Jerome stayed with us for two weeks and helped us with a variety of projects. He is a very helpful and skilled worker. Birgit stayed with us in Nelson NZ for just over 2 weeks. We were away for 8 days and Birgit looked after our property and our animals (alpacas, goats and chickens).
