What started as an idea by a group of friends with a love for adventure and sustainability, turned into a number of eco tourism projects in Malaysia. After so many adventures with volunteers from all over the world (turning an uninhabited island into a self sustainable place, setting up an oyster farm, building a floating lodge!) we are now looking for help with development of a nature lodge and campsite in a village in Kedah, north Malaysia.
We have 3 missions:
providing job opportunities for the local rural community,
promoting a sustainable lifestyle and offering nature education
letting people enjoy the beautiful Malaysian nature, together!

If you decide you would like to stay with us, you'll become part of our small team of locals and other volunteers. One of the team members will cook delicious local foods, if you don't know already, Malaysian food is awesome! You'll experience a beautiful stay in nature, with lots of free time to explore the mysterious mangroves, watch amazing sunsets from the rooftop and explore the region. We have a motorbike and bicycle you are free to use.
As you'll be living in a small village, you'll surely mingle with locals and learn about the culture. Malay are a super friendly and curious bunch, they will be excited to share and get to know you.
You'll also learn about the mangrove ecosystem, local ways of building, gardening, gaining practical skills. Might want to pick up new hobbies, like birding, kayaking or fishing!
Ajuda
DAILY TASKS
We need continuous help with keeping the area clean and tidy. This can be housekeeping before/after our guests arrive, landscape maintenance and general cleaning up. If you have a knack for it, you can help with gardening too.
PROJECTS
We are currently in the middle of setting up a campsite next to the mangroves, and we can use help doing this. Making a roof for the shower rooms, electricity wiring, painting, planting trees... many things to be done!
MAINTENANCE
We have a wooden lodge on the river, which is always in need of maintenance. If you are skilled in woodwork, there are always jobs to be done. Boat maintenance, painting jobs are some other things we can use help with.
ART
For the artists amongst you, we want to make our place beautiful! Murals, sign boards, decorations; we are open to hear your ideas and let your creativity flow!
NATURE EDUCATION
We want our place to be fun, beautiful and educational. We need help collecting and delivering information about the natural environment and sustainability.

Acomodação
We have a wooden floating lodge on the river, with the best views. You'll feel like miles away from the civilised world! You'll share a dorm room with other volunteers (male/female seperate). Another option is camping, for which we will provide the tent. Depending on availability and what's more convenient in the moment you might be asked to stay in the dorm room or to camp. Of course you are welcome to setup your own equipment if you have it.

We are located in the middle of river Merbok, with some beautiful spots in the area to explore. It's a pretty traditional, rural environment with sites of historical and cultural importance. The coast isn't far, neither are the rice fields which Kedah is famous for.
To get here, you can take a bus or train to Sungai Petani, after which you need to take a taxi or grab (about half hour drive).
When you're here, you're free to use kayak, bicycle and motorbike to get around. But frankly, you might not want to leave the breezy river view rooftop...

The place is awesome for remote work, however, as of now, WiFi is not supported in the area. You'll need mobile internet, for which reception is pretty good.

AMAZING! This was an unforgettable experience! Some of my favorite moments include learning how to make coconut oil, coconut milk, laughing over everything with Fadzil, and beach cleaning.
